Our New Entry Light
We've been making some progress around the house these past few weeks. One of the things we were finally able to get done, was installing our new entry light. When we bought the house, most of the rooms didn't have ceiling lighting. I'm not sure why that was such a big trend back in the 1980's, but when we were knee deep in remodeling the house, we had an electrician come in and add recessed lighting, as well as a few new ceiling boxes where we didn't previously have any lights. Our entry was one of those rooms. We've waited several months before buying a light fixture for the space, but since we've been making a few other changes and adding in new furniture, it was time to finally ...
Changes To Our Entry
Now that we're finished with demo and have all the big key items in place, we can finally start playing around with all the fun things in the house. One of the first rooms I wanted to tackle, was our entry. Given that it's one of the first things our guests see when they walk in the door, I wanted to make it tidy and presentable. Changes to our entry our have definitely given the house a breath of fresh air, and it's so nice having a pulled together space when we walk in the door. When we first moved in, and as we were unloading furniture, we put one of our dressers in the the entry and it stayed there until recently. I knew the dresser would never be a permanent solution, but ...
Fall Living Room & Entry
I'm slow to the house decorating scene this year, but today's post is all about our fall living room and entry! I've really wanted to change things up in our home. We've had everything the same way for so long, it was starting to feel a little bit stale to me. I recently took a trip to Gordmans, and I was immediately filled with so much decorating energy! Their home décor selection is amazing, and the prices are just as fabulous! Win and double win! Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get everything home! I find it completely amazing how just a little bit of new décor and a fresh placement of existing items can entirely transform any space. Our living room and ...
New Entry Light
Oh my gosh. I am so sorry if you've been trying to access my site, or the online shop, which is still down. We were having some major issues on the back side of the blog, and I'm crossing my fingers the online shop portion of our site will be up and running soon! Technical difficulties are never fun, and when they are completely out of your control, it's even worse. We have been working on several new projects around the house, and I can't wait to update you on everything we've finished. That master bathroom of ours? We've made major progress on it! It's a completely different room! But, back to today's post, it's all about a little switcheroo of our new entry light... I've ...
The White Kitchen Wall
White paint makes everything pop. We recently planked a few more walls in the house, and that led to a wall in the kitchen being painted the same color for a smoother transition... Yes, it's true. I love the color white. White walls, white flowers, white clothing, white vehicles... basically white everything. When we first built the house, I had the main color in our living room/ kitchen area painted Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore. I really liked/like the color, but noticed that a few of the rooms that received the direct sunlight began turning a bit pinkish. Especially in the entry way. One of the first ideas I had, was to paint stripes on the wall. And while they did look good, I ...
Combining Board & Batten With Planked Walls
We've been working on adding custom finishing touches to our home since we built it 4 years ago. We've updated much of lighting, built a bench for our breakfast nook, and added board and batten and plank walls throughout the house. In my opinion, the biggest and most custom changes have come from the board and batten walls, and the plank walls. They have added a craftsmanship to our home, which it was lacking. Adding the custom wall treatments has also clearly distinguished certain rooms in our open floor plan. Like most, I would agree that having an open floor plan is a wonderful and beautiful thing. But, it also makes it hard to establish different rooms because of the open ...
Framed Farm Sacks
These framed farm sacks are the perfect way to add unique character to your home! They're not only perfect as artwork, but they hold a special meaning of the past. See how easy it is to frame them for wall art! I can't even tell you how long I have been on the hunt for old farm sacks. I absolutely adore them, but they're not always the easiest thing to find. A while back, I went on a girls trip with a couple of my great friends, and as we were traveling, we decided to stop in a local antique store as we were walking by. It was one of the best decisions ever. After browsing through the store, I found myself in a booth with a bunch of farm sacks hanging on the back wall. I stood in ...
Planked Walls in the Entry
If you're looking for an easy, fast, and cheap way to add character to your home, consider planking your walls. We just finished adding plank walls to our entry way and it's added that perfect amount of character and farmhouse style! I've been ready to change our entryway for quite a while now. When we first moved in after the house was built, I knew that because we had such an open floor plan, I would need to find ways to create separate "rooms" within the same open floor plan. The first way I created that, was by painting stripes in our entry. I loved them the instant we finished painting. They were exactly what the space needed, and instead of having one big room, it felt like we ...
Painted Front Door
It seems that lately I'm following through with projects I've had on my "someday" list. And while I'm not sure why I ever included painting the inside of our front door on that list, it's done and completed and beautiful. And now, I have no clue why I waited to paint it. I've known for at least a year what I wanted to do, but it's always fell to the end of my list, which we all know, is quite long. Since we added our dining room shelving, I decided it was time to get our entry way in shape too. Suddenly, it's started to feel like the odd man out, and changes are definitely coming its way. Knowing what changes I want to make, painting the inside of our front door felt like the ...
Updated Entryway Art
Our entryway has had several changes since we moved in 8 months ago. Even with everything that we've already done, I still don't consider the entryway finished. I keep going back to tweak and change things around. This project is no different. I was ready for a change. We have two frames that hold some DIY artwork. While I liked what they said, I was ready to freshen them up. My solution? Change the color and background of the prints. I've been trying to incorporate pops of navy blue throughout the house and this fit that bill perfectly. I created both of the prints in Microsoft Publisher and just printed them out on heavy card stock. It couldn't have ...
Entry Coat Tree
A while back (like August...) I found a lovely coat rack at one of the thrift stores. I about passed out when I walked in and saw it sitting there. So, naturally, I stalked it for about five minutes, figured it would be safe to browse through the rest of the store, and headed off in search of other new items. When I went back to the front of the store it was gone! What?! I hurriedly searched around while mentally telling myself that I was a big dummy for not packing it around with me. I was just about to give up when I walked around the last corner and there it sat! The staging lady had moved it to a less noticeable area. I hugged her thanked her for protecting my new favorite ...
Entryway Updates
Oh Boy! I've been working on our entry way, trying to collect things here and there, but I've also been busy making a few things of my own! And I couldn't be happier with the way it's progressing! It's a rather happy feeling when your style comes alive. Don't get me wrong, I've thought that our entryway has been making some seriously awesome progress, especially with the addition of our stripe wall, but that was just the base. It still needed the little extras that would take it to the next level. The things that would make it feel like ours. I want our entryway, as well as every other room in our home, to reflect who we are as a couple and family. By doing that, our guests should get a ...
Our Stripes… And A Tutorial
A while back I announced my undying love for stripes. I just couldn't get them out of my head! I had to have my own! This past weekend I set out to do just that! One way or another we were going to have stripes... Only one problem though: I'm not the best paint taper ever... no matter what I do or how hard I try, the paint bleeds underneath the tape leaving horrid blotches everywhere. And yes, I use the good painters tape. Needless to say, I was worried that we would go to all that work and have a blotchy wall that would need a ton of touching up or repainted. So, I begged my very busy farming husband to tape the walls for me. He agreed, somewhat grudgingly. :) But they turned out ...
