New Entry Light
I’m sharing the new entry light we added to our home. It’s added so much character to our home and entry way.
We have been working on several new projects around the house, and I can’t wait to update you on everything we’ve finished. That master bathroom of ours? We’ve made major progress on it! It’s a completely different room!
But, back to today’s post, it’s all about a little switcheroo of our new entry light…
New Entry Light
I’ve known for quite a long time that our entry way light needed to be swapped out. There wasn’t anything wrong with it exactly, but it also didn’t really work for the space. It mounted directly to the ceiling, and kind of hid out up there…
That picture was taken right after we planked the walls in the entry, and it only spurred a list of several other things to change or swap out. We’ll be working on them a little at a time, but I can’t wait to see it all come together.
Our new light, is an old gas station light that I found at an antique market. I’m a sucker for lighting, and as soon as I saw this light hanging from their display, I knew I wasn’t leaving without it. I stared at it, petted it, stared at it some more, petted it again… and then finally said, “Yep, it’s mine”, quite distinctly- if you want the whole story. 🙂
We got it hung up as soon as we got home, right before Christmas. If you look back on our Christmas Home Tour, you’ll actually see it hanging up. But since I hadn’t officially shared it, I thought I should.
I loved the originality of it. The galvanized rod it would hang from…
And the “time-worn” character it had in a few places…
Truly, this light was in fabulous shape! Once we got it hung up, I loved it that much more. It’s the perfect addition to our entry…
We have a lot of white going on at the moment, and I kind of love it, but I do have some plans to add in some new/different things to liven up our little entry…
It also plays well with the other light fixtures in the main room. It’s all open, and you can see them all hanging in each room, so I wanted something that was subtle enough to blend, but “bold” enough to say, “This is an entry way, watch me light it up!”. 🙂
Little by little, and light by light, we are making progress in the house…
And I loved this light sooo much, that when we went back to that antique mall and found this light…
It was sold as well… Stay tuned to see where it’s going!
I love your new “old” light. I am really thinking about painting out a couple of our entry doors in black…seeing your again, I was wondering how you like it and what color and finish you used. Looking forward to seeing the bedroom post as well!!
I love your “new” light! It is perfect for your space! Can’t wait to see where the other one is going!
Where did you find the 1st light you had? Its exactly what I am looking for for our entry. Our ceiling is vaulted so it has to be a flush mount. I love the new light you found..it works perfect in your space!
Love it. I think it would look great painted black as well and accent the black door. Thanks for sharing.
Love it!! Just tonight I wondered if my light shades in bathroom would easily switch out with a mason jar. No. Not at all the same size. My luck of DIY tonight:-/ but I totally liked those books on that entry table (color–I’m the old lady with a some color!) and the mirror. It’s hard to make an entrance for your space has many openings but you have by using proper scale! It’s really striking the new pendant and accessories you’ve added.
Oh my I LOVE it!!! I love making old things new again and actually using them. It looks beautiful!!! Blessings from Missouri!!
Good morning. I just found the some light fixtures like that but it is just the shade. Can you help with how you hooked up the actual light to the fixture? Thank you.
Oh my, that light is awesome! I love finding antiques like that – so fun! 🙂

It’s a beautiful change. Love it.
I think what makes light fixtures like yours….or any home accessory….special is the story behind them. My favorite part is the metal arm! I’m redoing a theater room into a Studio in our home and a friend just gave me four old light fixtures with similar shades as yours. She found them buried in the woods! The chipping and rusting is simply perfect, and I can’t wait to hang them 🙂
I love the light and that mirror over the small entry table is the exact mirror I have been looking for….can you tell me where you purchased it? I want to use it as a vanity mirror in our guest bathroom that will also have planked walls.
How can you put a light(DIY) in the front porch when there is no light outlet to hang a light (without paying for an electrician)… solar light would not work with the shade and low sun in the winter
THANKS
Depending on the light you choose, instead of using an actual light bulb, you could attach a puck light inside the light fixture (where the bulb should go) and use a remote to turn it on and off. I’ve used puck lights before and they work great! Here’s an option: https://rstyle.me/+VBX46vh7WEzuZaFSCs0oNA
