The White Kitchen Wall
White paint makes everything pop. We recently planked a few more walls in the house, and that led to a wall in the kitchen being painted the same color for a smoother transition…
Yes, it’s true. I love the color white. White walls, white flowers, white clothing, white vehicles… basically white everything. When we first built the house, I had the main color in our living room/ kitchen area painted Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore. I really liked/like the color, but noticed that a few of the rooms that received the direct sunlight began turning a bit pinkish. Especially in the entry way. One of the first ideas I had, was to paint stripes on the wall. And while they did look good, I had a style shift and knew they no longer fit the house.
Insert my plank walls, and we had another white room in the house. Oh how I love white rooms.
And because of the header in our dining room, which you can see below…
That meant we needed to carry the planks over the section connected to the dining room, while keeping the same white color over the rest of the header, and down onto the wall in the kitchen with our shelf. It only made sense, especially since the header connected the two (basically three) rooms into one.
The difference is subtle, but it’s there. The sun was never really an issue on this wall, it actually looked great in all light, but the same color two walls over did turn pink. I don’t like a pink undertone in my paint, so I knew it had to go.
The white wall looks clean, fresh, and brightened up the kitchen.
Plus, white allows whatever you have to pop. I love the way it brings all of our items to center focus. It also lightened up our kitchen, which is a little bit hard to do with really dark brown cabinets.
But, Super White by Benjamin Moore for the win again! It looks clean, bright, and warm. The items on the shelf are front and center for display, and it makes for an easy décor swap as the seasons change.
Oh my sweet white paint, how I love you. Don’t you change.
I have been wallowing in the sea of indecision for several weeks with my kitchen walls. Should I paint the lower wainscotting white and the upper half with pale gray, or do I paint the entire wall white? I finally made up my mind to do the two colors, but after reading your post, I am back to square one!!! AAACKK!! I think I will try the two colors first – live with it for a week, then make a decision. I really, really love all of your white walls!!!!!!
You are adorable and your home is so darn cute! By the way, I got my “How Great Thou Art” pillow last week ~ LOVE IT!
Your home is beautiful Shayna! I love love love the planked walls! And I’m with you when it comes to white. We, too, have dark kitchen cabinets and with the open floor plan white really helps balance it all out. Thanks for sharing!

You are so funny. I love white anything too! I’m trying to decide what color to paint my family room. Perhaps White? I wonder what the difference is between your white and. Simply White by Bm?
Where did you buy those hooks that the aprons are on?
Hi Amy! The hooks are from Ikea! 🙂
I’ve been trying to find where this shelf is from or if you have a DIY on it. Any details on it would be much appreciated and very helpful! 🙂
