Changes To Our Entry

Now that we’re finished with demo and have all the big key items in place, we can finally start playing around with all the fun things in the house. One of the first rooms I wanted to tackle, was our entry. Given that it’s one of the first things our guests see when they walk in the door, I wanted to make it tidy and presentable. Changes to our entry our have definitely given the house a breath of fresh air, and it’s so nice having a pulled together space when we walk in the door.

When we first moved in, and as we were unloading furniture, we put one of our dressers in the the entry and it stayed there until recently. I knew the dresser would never be a permanent solution, but it served us well until we could purchase a new piece of furniture specifically with the space in mind. If you remember from our very first home tour I shared, this is what the entry looked like up until a month ago…

I know that since I’ve already shared the pretty pictures of this space in our fall home tour, this probably isn’t a big surprise, but adding in our new entry table has made all the difference and it’s really encouraged me to keep going. It’s also fun to document the progress and see where we started.

In all reality, getting our new entry table is what led to most of the new changes, and we still have several others to implement. When deciding what I wanted to put in the entry, I kept coming back to a really long narrow table. Something that had some drawer space, and possibly even extra shoe storage space since we mainly use the front door when we come and go. I looked around everywhere and couldn’t find anything I loved, until I found this entry table. The finish was everything I wanted, and it was the perfect shape and size.

The open bottom also made it easy for me to envision baskets to use for shoe storage, and it had a good amount of drawer space, even if they were on the smaller side. It wasn’t until I remembered that I had a few crocks I could use to store extra shoes, etc., that this little area really came together. In the future, I can see purchasing some baskets, or upholstered boxes for closed storage, but I’m loving the crocks right now.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the table isn’t solid black. It has a slight distressing, and you can see the wood grain through the finish.  It looks so much more expensive than it really was…

This is easily one of the best online furniture purchases I’ve made… and I’ve made a few! I had to put it together, but it was really easy. I will say, hauling in the boxes was a challenge. This is a heavy, well built table.

Instantly, our entryway was transformed. I moved a few other things around, added the mirror and clipped some branches. Suddenly, things were feeling very finished, in a not to so finished entry.

We still have trim to install, on both the doors and floor, we need to install our closet door, and I’m totally dreaming of doing a wall treatment on the wall behind the table. All in good time, but that didn’t stop me from ordering a new light fixture as well. We’ve lived without a light in this space since we moved in… actually the entry never had a light until we had the electrician install one. I can’t wait to show you what I picked, I’ve been crushing on it for forever, but in the mean time, we’re definitely enjoying the view and these fun changes to our entry.

  1. So beautiful! I’m happy for you! PS: do you happen to know the source of your lampshade? It totally would “hit the spot” in our newly redone bedroom!

    1. Thank you! 🙂 I actually bought the lamp several years ago at JCPenney. It’s one of my favorite lamps, but I’ve never been able to find a source for it.

  2. You found a beautiful, handsome and really sturdy table. I checked it out online and you snagged a deal! If I had a space for it I would get one too! The entry looks just beautiful!

  3. Everything is coming along absolutely beautifully, Shayna! Wow, I just love that table! It’s the perfect choice for the entryway. Like another commenter said, if I had a spot for it, I’d jump on it, too. What a fabulous deal.
It’s been such fun watching this house come together. Boy, I can’t believe it’s the same place. And as much as I love all the new things you’ve chosen, I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed the way you repurpose things you’ve used in the past, transforming them with paint or using them in different spaces.
You have such a great eye for what looks good and I’m looking forward to seeing what else you do! Thanks for sharing the process with us.
PS – Will you be doing a Christmas tour like you have in the past? *fingers crossed*

    1. Thank you so much for the sweet comment, Deb! I will still be doing some repurposing too! We’re just not quite there yet. 🙂 And yes, I will definitely be doing a Christmas home tour this year… it’s already scheduled on the calendar! 🙂
