We've been making some progress around the house these past few weeks. One of the things we were finally able to get done, was installing our new entry light. When we bought the house, most of the rooms didn't have ceiling lighting. I'm not sure why that was such a big trend back in the 1980's, but when we were knee deep in remodeling the house, we had an electrician come in and add recessed lighting, as well as a few new ceiling boxes where we didn't previously have any lights. Our entry was one of those rooms. We've waited several months before buying a light fixture for the space, but since we've been making a few other changes and adding in new furniture, it was time to finally ...

Updating Our Hallway Lighting
A few weeks ago, I shared how we updated our hallway with board and batten... talk about a transformation to the space. One day it was a plain and basic hallway, the next it was bright and full of character. But shortly before we added the board and batten, we decided it was time to update our hallway lighting too. When we built the house, we installed two basic can lights in the hallway, and while there wasn't anything wrong with the lighting, I felt the hallway would benefit from two pendant type lights to add extra character. We also happened to have two pendant lights sitting in our garage. A few years ago, when we gave our fixer upper a makeover, I had bought these two ...
New Breakfast Nook Light
More details on our breakfast nook today! After we added the new stainless steel table to the room, I knew our old lantern style light had to go. It didn't fit the shape and style of the table, and it felt too small since the new table was much longer in size. And to be totally truthful, I'd been envisioning a different style light... Lighting makes such a huge difference, and I think it's often so under valued and appreciated. It's also really easy to update and transform a space just by adding a new light! Please note: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links, which allows us to make a small commission from your purchase, but your purchase price stays the same. ...
DIY Concrete Lamp
I have a slight new obsession, and it comes in the form of concrete lamps. They're pretty much eye candy for me, always grabbing my attention whenever I see them. I even added one to our home a few weeks ago, and you can see it here. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with buying your own concrete lamp, I wanted to see if I could create my own DIY version. I mean, there are so many hopeless lamps floating around in thrift stores, I loved the idea of making my own. After a little bit of trial and error, I found a formula that not only came close to mimicking the real deal, but one that's fool proof, making you take a double look to check and see if it really is concrete! ...
New Light In The Master Bathroom
Today it's all about our new light in the master bathroom. Little by little, we've made progress fixing it up. The bathroom that sat unfinished for months, has slowly started to take shape... and it's exciting. You may remember when I shared a sneak peek of this light in our new entry light post... We were lucky enough to find that little gem of a light at an antique mall in Littleton (Colorado) while visiting family. I loved the shape, the ribbed design, and the simple farmhouse vibe it had. After debating on several different places to hang it in the house, I finally decided on our master bathroom. The size is perfect for this little room, and while it's a tiny bit hard to ...
New Entry Light
Oh my gosh. I am so sorry if you've been trying to access my site, or the online shop, which is still down. We were having some major issues on the back side of the blog, and I'm crossing my fingers the online shop portion of our site will be up and running soon! Technical difficulties are never fun, and when they are completely out of your control, it's even worse. We have been working on several new projects around the house, and I can't wait to update you on everything we've finished. That master bathroom of ours? We've made major progress on it! It's a completely different room! But, back to today's post, it's all about a little switcheroo of our new entry light... I've ...
Wall Lights In The Breakfast Nook
I've been dreaming of wall lights on either side of our breakfast nook window for a few months now. I love the way they look, and they add that extra detail that really makes a room feel finished. Our breakfast nook had been lacking a little something, and I knew it was the wall lights. Since we've added them, it's like night and day difference. The room instantly feels different, perhaps a little more "expensive" looking, and a whole lot more finished! Our breakfast nook is my favorite room in the house, and it feels the most, dare I say it, finished. I'm sure I just jinxed myself... Adding them to the wall was quite easy, but because we didn't use actual "wall lights with a ...
New Dining Room Light
Well, I'm back to share our new dining room light! We were definitely ready to swap out our old light and hang up the new one I found on clearance at Home Depot. I'd been admiring it for a really long time, kind of like our new living room light, although this one was much cheaper! :-D When we installed our new dining room shelves, I knew there was no way our old light fixture was going to look right with them. Anthony never liked the light from the start, so he was more than happy to do a light switcheroo. And I must admit, this one looks much better and fits the house, and our whole look, perfectly. Here's our old light fixture... Basically night and day difference. The ...
New Front Porch Lantern Light
Little by little, we're updating all of our semi builder grade lighting around the house. When we built our home, almost three years ago (how can that be?), we definitely had to stick to our budget. And needless to say, we didn't have a huge amount of money for lighting. Other things like real hardwood flooring, nicer cabinets and stucco siding were much more important to us, so we skimped on lighting. It's also one of the easier things to upgrade as time and our styles change. After our living room light switcheroo, the next light I couldn't wait to swap out was our front porch light. It's always seemed waay too small for the door and as time moved on, it was something that I couldn't ...
Knock Off Grain Sieve Light Fixture
I haven't shared a mudroom update for a while, but today I'm changing that. Since we've completely re-done everything in our little mudroom, I thought it would only be fitting to make a new light fixture as well. Plus, I loved how our laundry room light turned out, and I thought it would be cool to have two connected rooms match a wee bit through their lighting... So, let me introduce you to our newest light, our knock off grain sieve light fixture... It's industrial and farmhouse and full of character. My favorite! And, oh man, I've had the biggest crush on grain sieves. I've been searching for one, but only found ones that were huge or really expensive. I decided to take ...
Living Room Wood Chandelier
I'm sure by now you know we have a thing for wood.... And I'm sure you also know that I love the combination of white and wood. It does all sorts of silly things to me, like giving me heart palpitations... We've also been slowly working on our living room. Emphasis on slowly. But, as luck may have it, today I get to share our new living room wood chandelier... When we built the house, we installed a big ceiling fan thinking that we would need it. Well, two years later, that ceiling fan had been turned on a total of zero times. I'm not exaggerating about that either. Zero. We didn't fully know what to expect with our geo thermal heating and cooling system, but let me just say ...
Laundry Room Farmhouse Light
As you know, we've been working on our laundry room. It's been a process, but we are so close to being done! And since today is $30 Thursday, I thought I would use the $30 budget to create a new light fixture for the laundry room. If you're new here, $30 Thursday is held the first Thursday of each month. April from House by Hoff, Jen from Migonis Home and I challenge ourselves to create a project that's under $30 and easy enough that anyone can make it. For this round, I created this: I would be lying if I told you that I'm not completely obsessed with it. I totally am. Especially since I've seen versions on the internet for waaay more than I spent on this. I had a few ...
Swing Arm Lamp Makeover
I have a tendency to stash future furniture projects. Sometimes I wait for inspiration to strike and then other times I know exactly what I'm going to do with something the minute I get it home. This swing arm lamp has officially sat in our bedroom, unfinished I might add, for over a year. Yep. When I told you that our master bedroom was home to about 6 unfinished projects, I really wasn't kidding... Please tell me I'm not the only one with a room like that! It was time to scratch one of those items off the list... When I found the swing arm lamp, I knew that it could be a total beauty. I was right. But, here's the thing... it started out as combination of brass and ...
Breakfast Nook Lighting
Like I mentioned in our 2013 project list, one of our goals is to finish the breakfast nook. After what seemed like a high and low search for the right light, I finally decided on one. At first, I thought a drum light would be the way to go. I wanted something with a little "heftiness" and liked that they could stand on their own while not overwhelming the room. After searching for a reasonably priced drum light, I couldn't find any that I really loved. So, the search for a different light began. It was then that I fell hard for a lantern style light. While cruising around Home Depot I spotted it high on a shelf in the clearance section. Yes, you read that right, the clearance section! ...
