Nursery Design Plan
With our sweet baby girl due the beginning of July, I’ve been working hard to pull together her nursery design plan and our baby registry. It’s becoming really real that she’ll be here soon, which is both incredibly exciting and making me a little bit nervous at the same time. We still have so much to do and prepare before she makes her arrival!
Last weekend we removed everything from our office, which has been relocated to the basement, in preparation to start working on her room. I’ve thought long and hard about what I want her room to feel and look like. I often find myself sitting in her room, taking it all in and letting my imagination take over. This is the room we’ll be bringing her home to… it’s something that feels incredibly special.
It will probably come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, or who has followed this blog for any amount of time, but her room will be neutral in color. There’s something so calming, peaceful and welcoming about a soft room filled with cozy textures, layered rugs and plush surfaces all in a creamy neutral color palette. I’ve went back and forth so many times, but in the end, this is what feels right to me.
I know there will be so many decisions as we pull everything together, but here’s what I’m thinking so far…

Like I mentioned above, I really want to keep her room neutral in color, but add in a few contrasting elements in navy, floral and blush pink. I know navy may not be the normal choice for a baby girl, but this floral wallpaper sealed the deal for me. It feels so incredibly feminine and I truly love the navy blue, soft whites and the floral print. But even with that said, I still can’t fully decide how I want to incorporate it into her room.
I want to focus more on adding wall moulding to the walls, which sets the overall tone for what I envision, but I also want to incorporate the wallpaper in some way as well. We’ll see where and how I end up using it. Should be a fun surprise for all of us, haha! 🙂
Here’s a few before pictures of the room… I can’t wait to look back and see how much changes!
Obviously, we’ll be removing the tv and anything else that’s left in here, but just having such an open, blank space has really let my mind gather inspiration.
We’ll also be installing a new light… a ceiling fan. As much as I’d love to hang something different in here, our upstairs gets pretty warm and a ceiling fan will be a necessity. This one is really pretty…
We’re starting with a pretty blank canvas… even the closet hasn’t been put back together yet and we still need to install closet doors and the rest of the base trim! For her closet, we’re thinking of installing this closet system to help organize everything and add extra shelving.
I plan on keeping the current wall color, Gray Mist by Benjamin Moore, but adding wall moulding similar to our master bathroom on the bottom portion of the walls and painting it my favorite bright white, Super White by Benjamin Moore. It’s going to create the perfect, soft backdrop.
Her crib will go on the wall with the tv, and we’ll be installing floor to ceiling moulding to really create the perfect backdrop…
In order to get the room ready, here’s everything on our to do list:
- Install closet doors
- Install closet system, we’re leaning on this one
- Finish installing base trim
- Paint the lower portion of the walls white
- Install wall moulding
- Install ceiling fan, I really like this one
- Install light blocking blind
- Install blackout curtains
- Build wall book ledge
- Add furniture
- Add accessories
- Organize, organize, organize
We have our work cut out for us, but we’ve been doing so well with making progress throughout the house that it’s inspired us to keep going… that, and, we have a pretty solid deadline. 🙂
Here are several of the items (so far) I’m plan on incorporating. I know things will probably change, and this list will grow as we really start creating her room…

Here’s to officially starting on the nursery and bringing this sweet space to life! I can’t wait to see it come together!
Have you considered using the floral wallpaper on the back wall of the closet?
Yes, I have! It’s definitely an option! 🙂
What about putting the wallpaper on the back wall of the closet and then using some of the paper to put in a couple of frames and hang in the bedroom?
Have you considered making three panels with the moulding and putting that beautiful navy floral wall paper inside.
I have thought of that! 🙂 I’m still undecided…
Sounds like a lovely plan, love your ideas!
