Remember that big shed transformation that we finished in August? Well, I'm back to share one more thing that we added to it... A fold up (or down) potting bench! I've wanted a potting bench for sooo long. In the past, I've lugged all my pots, potting soil and plants to the front of the house and potted them on our front porch. Then once I was finished, I'd drag all the supplies back to the shed. Efficient, right? Definitely NOT! That's happily in my past, because now I have this: I'm pretty sure love isn't a strong enough word for how I feel about it. And it's nothing if not efficient. I can have it up: Or down: I. KNOW! Here's how we made it: First we ...

Concrete Pots
I like things that are a bit different and unexpected. Concrete pots happen to fall under both of those categories. I've been looking to add a few plants here and there throughout the house, but I wanted something that was a bit different to the traditional house plant. Succulents and concrete pots were the perfect solution. I love them! And they're easy to make! Here's how to make them! You will need: - Portland Quikrete - Perlite - Sphagnum Peat Moss - Water - Cooking Spray - Plastic Containers - Mixing Bucket & Paint Stir Stick First, start by mixing equal amounts of portland quikrete, perlite and peat moss. Mix as much as you want, as long ...
Shed Makeover
We've had this shed... and it was a real eye sore to look at. Seriously. I basically couldn't stand to look at it another second. When we bought our property, I can remember thinking how bad of shape it was in. It really needed a makeover. It was hideous. And rotting. And falling apart. And did I mention ugly? But... After a ton of work, new paint and wood, and products from 3MDIY.com our shed makeover is complete! And I'm completely thrilled with the results! But I think I should remind you where we started... Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get started! First, we had to power wash the shed. The paint was already peeling really badly and it was ...
Wheat Harvest
It's been a while since I've done any sort of update on the farm. The last time I did, we were prepping the fields for planting. That was in March.... Needless to say, everything's been growing like crazy. Everything is green and lush and lovely. I love this time of year. But there's one crop that sticks out like a sore thumb right now: Winter Wheat. It's absolutely lovely in the winter because it's the only thing that's green. Then, during the middle of summer it turns the prettiest shade of gold. It's extremely itchy, but that didn't stop me from running around and taking all sorts of pictures. It's so pretty. And I love to capture the process.... From the ...
Fence Picket Outdoor Table Top
I have a confession, and it's kind of funny.... We have a lovely patio area... but no patio table. Ha! When we built our home we added a big patio off the back. One that overlooks incredible mountain and farm views. It's lovely out there, especially when we're entirely surrounded by corn. But until a few weeks ago, it sat empty. Well, not entirely. We do have a grill and two chaise lounges that I swiped off the side of road pre-blogging. (Anthony should have known then...) But other than that, it was empty. And what's a patio without a patio table? It's like macaroni without cheese. It's just wrong. Luckily, a while back I scored a round metal patio table for free. It was ...
DIY Garden Plant Stakes
As you might know, I grew up on a very large farm. I guess you could say that farming & gardening is in my blood. My husband and I are even lucky enough to have our very own farm. As a child & teenager, I can still remember the many summer days I spent with my mom & dad working in the garden and fields. While I didn't love every second of pulling weeds or hoeing the garden, I'm so happy that they made me stick it out at times. Today, it's one of the things that I enjoy the most! Basically, when I think of summer time, I think of farming and gardening. And today, I'm sharing some really cute and really easy garden plant stakes. I just love them! To start, I ...
Garden Shed Inspiration
I've been working on several projects lately, and while some of them are close to being done, none of them actually are.... I had big plans to show you something new in the laundry room today, but it didn't happen. So instead, I'm veering off course and showing you our pretty little garden shed.... HA! What a laugh! You see, we have this sad, sad, sad little garden shed. It was on the property when we bought it, and I think it's safe to say that it hasn't seen a coat of paint in yeeaarrss. See what I don't show you? Ya... You're not missing much! But the good news is, I have big plans for it! Here are some of my favorite garden sheds, all of which have given me an extra ...
Night Farming
I know you love the DIY, so do I, but today I'm sharing another love of mine... Farming. Spring time marks the beginning of the very busy farming season. As soon as it starts to warm up, the snow melts, and the nights provide a solid freeze, we start up the tractors and begin plowing under the previous years harvested crop. Truly, that marks spring for us. It means there are a lot of late (& cold) dinners and even later nights in our future. It means a 1:oo or 2:00 a.m. bed time is allowed and even expected. Night farming is officially in full swing- there is so much ground to prep for this years crop. And since farming is such a huge role in my life and family, I'm ...
Our Farm: Week 14
Yes, it has been 6 weeks since our last farm pictures. Wow, time has flown! It's easy to say that we're on the down hill slide of things for the year. It won't be long until the beans start turning yellow and drying out. Combining season is right around the corner! We're still irrigating the corn, but it's only got a watering or two before it's done. Just like the beans, it will start to dry out and turn a golden color. At least it sticks around for awhile. It makes everything feel very fall-ish. The stalks are loaded with corn! The corn has tasseled, which sends the silk down to the plant, which produces the corn. Very scientific. Really. You can slightly see that the beans are ...
Our Farm: Week Three, Four & Eight
So, I'll be frank, you won't even recognize our fields. They've completely changed. Like a lot. Remember this: (Week Two) Well, that quickly turned into this: (Week Three) Then this: (Week Four) And now THIS: (Week Eight) Told you it had really, really grown! It's taller than me! (Corn & Beans) While I was out taking pictures this weekend, I was lucky enough to capture some great shots of the airplane sprayer that dusts crops with different kinds of spray. I swear he saw me taking pictures and made sure to do a few extra loops. :) So there you have it! It'll only keep growing! :) ...
Our Farm: Week Two
Well, another week has passed. We finished watering our corn in the small field below the house and have started on the big field to the west. The corn is just beginning to peak through the dirt in the small field and we expect to see the same in the big field next week. It's very exciting. Here's to week two! It's looking lovely! ...
Our Farm: Week One
Happy Sunday! This weekend has been nothing short of busy. Between painting, shopping for a few final house items (say that 5 times fast) and irrigating our field for the first time, we've had a very successful few days. Since we're in full swing farming, I'm going to try my best to do a weekly update to document our crops as they progress. Here's to week one... and the pictures that document it! I hope your weekend was wonderful! ...
Style Board Series: Master Patio
I can honestly say that the master patio style board has been one of the funnest to create thus far. I've had a difficult time choosing a couple of the items, just because there are so many awesome things to pick from. Luckily, our patio is quite large and because of that I am able to divide it into two different sections, if you will. On the side of the master bedroom I am planning on expanding the stamped concrete with stone pavers. As an added bonus to the property that we bought, the previous owner left behind a ton of stone pavers, which threw me for a loop in the beginning. I had no clue how we could reuse them, but I was adamant that we keep them. I have found a new place for several ...
