2021 Project Goals
Below I’m sharing our 2021 project goals and the plans we have to keep our home transformation going.
Every year, at the start of the year, I like to sit down and really think about what our house project goals are for the year. Since Todd and I do all of these projects on a budget, with cash, setting aside the funds and creating those budgets is essential in actually finishing projects. House projects and budgets go hand in hand, and I’ve learned when we have a designated amount set aside, it’s easier and more fun to create a budget for each project we’d like to complete!
Even with as much progress as we’ve made in our Willow house, there’s still more spaces to finish, projects to complete and rooms to reveal. We’ve been working so hard on this house since we bought it in 2018 and we’ve come a long, long way, but it’s still not quite finished.
The good news is, our list of major projects is starting to slim down and we’ll soon be able to focus on projects that will be a little lighter on the budget and easier to manage without tearing apart the whole house. That in itself is a goal. Living through a remodel is hard, I talked about that here, and now that we’re on the downhill slope, I feel like I can finally see the light.
2021 Project Goals
Here’s what our 2021 project goals are:
Finish The Kitchen
We did a bulk of the work last year, but we have just a few little things left to finish to call this space done. On the list: paint and install the cabinet toe kick and ceiling moulding, and share our vent hood tutorial! (Spoiler: It looks fabulous!)
Downstairs Bathroom
When we initially gutted the house, we took down a few walls in the down stairs portion of the house, allowing us to create a laundry room and a large bathroom. Now that we have the other bathrooms in the house done, it’s time to focus on our downstairs bathroom. Right now it’s demoed down to the studs and we’re using it as a storage room. And while I’ll be sad to loose the storage space, we’re anxious to have this room finished.
I’ll be sharing more about our plans a bit later, but we already have a contractor lined up and ready to start in February!

Budget Master Bedroom Makeover
Our master bedroom is in serious need of a makeover. Our furniture isn’t working for us, we need new bedding and it’s completely void of any style. We’ll be giving this room a makeover on a budget and I can’t wait to get started. We plan on focusing on this space in the next few months and I’ll be sharing all about our plan for the space really soon. Just imagine, we’ll soon have a completely finished master bathroom and bedroom. Yes!
Finish & Reveal Several Spaces
There are several rooms in the house that are basically complete, but are missing a few final touches in order to call them finished. I’d like to get them buttoned up and share the full reveal on the blog. So far on the list, is Ania’s nursery, our kitchen, master bathroom and the hall bathroom.
Downstairs Fireplace/ Living Room
We have our work cut out for us, but we’re planning on giving the downstairs fireplace and living room a big makeover. This space has so much potential, and we’re excited to have it finished so we can actually use and enjoy the living room. Right now, it’s a hot mess of overflow storage and things that need organized. Once we’re ready to tackle this project, I look forward to sharing our design plan and how we plan to transform this space on a budget!
New Handrail
We tackled the stair makeover last year, and this year we’ll be installing a new handrail. I can’t tell you how excited we are to get rid of the old and dated handrail that’s currently there. I gave it a quick coat of paint a few years ago just to tide us over, but a spindle is broken and we’re ready to have something that better fits the house.
Finish The Laundry Room
Here’s another room that has a few projects left to finish! I’m really looking forward to having countertops and cabinet pulls, as well as trim! It’s time friends… it’s time. Realistically, there’s quite a bit to do in here and we have some weird quirks to figure out as we start doing projects.
Trim, Closet Doors & Paint
Will this ever be removed from our project list? Hopefully so! The last major rooms that need trim are our laundry room, the downstairs bathroom, the guest bedroom and our master bedroom. As soon as we have the trim done, we can paint and install closet doors. We also have several little areas of trim that need painted, as well as a couple of doors.
Install Missing Lights
We didn’t get this completed last year, but we’ll finish it this year. Our upstairs living room is missing a light, as well as our downstairs living room and the laundry room. I’m looking forward to having this one marked off the list. Lighting changes everything.
Install House Numbers & A New Mailbox
We haven’t had house numbers since we pulled off the old, dated numbers the day we started demo’ing the house. Our poor delivery drivers were rather confused at the start, worried they were at the wrong house. Now that we have the exterior basically done, it’s time to install new house numbers and a new mailbox. Our current mailbox is tipped to the side, has the wrong name on it and has definitely seen better days. These projects will help with curb appeal!
Landscaping
We finished the bulk of our landscaping projects last year, but we have a few plants to add this spring to finish everything off. I’m looking forward to seeing and enjoying the rewards of our hard work! Todd has especially put so much time into our landscaping. I know he’s anxious to call this project done!
Organizing
We definitely have our fair share of organizing left to do and plenty of piles to either donate or get creative with our storage areas. I have several little projects in mind that will really help tidy up the house, making it easier to find what we’re looking for and giving everything a place. There’s nothing more frustrating than not knowing where things are and spending time searching for something that should be easy to find.
And that’s our 2021 project goals! We have our hands full again, but we’re excited to finish up some of these larger projects so we can better enjoy the house. When there’s so much to do and the house doesn’t feel like you, it’s hard to enjoy your home. Slowly, we’re getting there. Here’s to 2021 and the projects it brings! I’m looking forward to it!
Sounds like having a plan is a step in the right direction for a productive 2021.
Have plans is a good ideal but priorities are the best of them especially with your new bundle of joy. Always out her first as long as your husband and everything else falls into places
So true! We love spending time with Ania and watching her grow!
Can’t wait to see it all come together. You have come SO FAR with this house. It’s really quite amazing!!! And INSPIRING!!! Excited to see what happens next!
Thank you so much, Robbin! We have come a long way in this house. It’s been fun to see it all come together!
