Office Design Plan
It’s hard to believe a month ago the room for our office was stacked full of boxes. We couldn’t even walk around in there. Every day I’d walk by completely overwhelmed and frustrated with not being able to find certain things we’d be looking for. As soon as I knew I’d be back to blogging again, putting the office together became a priority. So today, I’m sharing the office design plan and I’m so excited to see it come together!

Since Todd and I will both be using the office, I wanted it to be a nice balance of feminine and masculine… but we all know how much I love black paint and furniture. It wasn’t really a hardship. It’s also a really small room, and we’ll both be sharing the desk, with a chair on each side for our designated space.
With it being small, there’s not a lot of storage space for office or craft supplies. We needed something that could store a bunch of stuff, and look good while it does it. After looking at so many different options, we decided on the Billy Bookcases from Ikea. I loved how customizable they are, but also how they looked. We also decided to use a dining room table as our desk. After looking at different options, the table made the most sense for the space we have, as well as the overall layout we were looking for the room.
Here’s a breakdown of what we’ll be including:
- Billy Bookcases– Two of them actually. They’ll be the main storage space for the room.
- Wall Lighting– I can’t wait to get them installed above the bookcases.
- Faux Olive Tree– I definitely wanted a pop of life for the room, and we have the perfect corner space for this tree. Fingers crossed it looks amazing in person!
- Basket– We’ll be using plenty of baskets to organize the room, but I’m specifically thinking these will sit on top of the bookcases.
- Lamps– Task lighting changes everything, and I love the texture on these.
- Sideboard– I fell in love with this in Ikea. We’ll be using it for our printer and other items.
- Brass Knobs– Perfect pop against the black bookcase.
- Desk Chairs- This may change, but for now we’re going with these chairs, which I used in the breakfast nook at my last house.
- Round Mirror– To make the room feel bigger, we’ll be adding in this mirror.
- Buffalo Check Ottoman– Maybe one of my favorite items in the room, I used this little ottoman in my last house. It’s the perfect pop of pattern.
- Desk/ Table– Another item we loved when we saw it in Ikea, and the perfect desk for our office.
Ideally, with all of our other projects going on in the house, the office design needs to be easy to pull together. I’m really not wanting another room that’s full of partially finished projects just waiting until we can complete them. This plan should accomplish that.
I also can’t forget to mention how nice it will be to have a room that’s “finished” in the house. I say “finished” lightly, because, uh, is a room every really finished? But having a room that feels pulled together is something we’re both really looking forward to!
Office progress coming right up!
Can’t wait to see it finished! Love everything!!

Your home is coming along so perfectly. I look so forward to your posts. Can’t wait to see the finished office. Everything you have picked out is so lovely.
Enjoy doing these projects together.
I know that feeling of waiting for things to be completed.
When we were redoing our master the first thing that was completely finished was my closet.
I would stand in the doorway and smile.
I truly wanted to put a small bed in there and that would be my room until the project was completed.
Then all of a sudden it’s finished.
Have a great weekend
Rose
Can’t wait to see it!
This looks lovely! You’ve inspired me to pick up doors for my billy bookcases – it really ups the sophistication! Especially with the brass knobs on black – swoon.
Would love to hear back on how the Olive tree ends up looking IRL …
Thanks for sharing your progress!
