Guest Bedroom Headboard Makeover
The guest bedroom is moving along, which is so nice to see since the room sat as a complete danger (aka, junk) zone for months… When I decided to give this room a much needed refresh, one of the elements I knew I wanted to keep, was the headboard. I originally made it 10 plus years ago, which is crazy to think about, but it was the first piece I made for my first apartment after graduating high school. Throughout the years, it’s always been in use, and it’s honestly aged beautifully! The fabric I originally chose is still so fitting, and I thought long and hard about keeping it, but in the long run I decided to give it a slight refresh by recovering the fabric with something different.
Since painting the plank wall a beautiful dark gray/ green color, I knew I wanted the headboard to be covered in a linen like gray fabric. I ended up choosing a gray gauze cloth fabric (this is similar to what I used), which definitely wasn’t a solid fabric, but more of a mesh like material. If the headboard I was covering would have been at all bright or patterned, I would have had to cover it before I used the final fabric, but the tan fabric of the existing board blended perfectly.
Here’s how I recovered the headboard…
First, I laid the fabric on the ground, and then put the headboard face down. I made sure to have enough fabric around all sides of the headboard to wrap around each side…
Then, I trimmed the fabric and started stapling it to the headboard, which is made of plywood…
After I had each side pulled tight and stapled in place, I finished the corner piece. I pulled it over the corner, checking the front side to ensure it looked right, and then stapled it in place too…
Once I finished each corner, I flipped the board over and it was finished! Such an easy transformation.
It’s such the perfect addition to the room, and I love how the color of the wall and the fabric compliment each other so well…
And amazingly enough, the headboard has instantly transformed this room. There’s still plenty of other elements that I need to finish, but with the headboard in place, it feels like the to-do list is dwindling…
The entire vibe and feeling of the room is exactly what I wanted to create when I first started with the project. It feels warm and cozy, but still crisp, clean and bright…
I’m also entirely smitten mitten with the pillow and color combo going on. Swoon.
The cream pillows are from Target and have the most perfect blue/ green flecks woven into the fabric. They tie in perfectly with the headboard…
And also with the blue/green tartan pillows…
So, all that to say, the headboard has been the perfect addition to the room! I can’t wait to add the other details to the space and see it all come together! It’s been fun to try different things, and incorporate different colors and elements into this room… it’s quickly becoming my favorite!
