Painted Guest Bedroom Wall

Well, I finally painted the guest bedroom wall. I knew it would probably be a little bit tricky since I was going from a white plank wall to a dark black/green wall… and I was right. This was one of the more time consuming walls I’ve painted lately, but it was worth the extra time!

When I first shared my design inspiration and mood board for our new guest bedroom, I envisioned a dark plank wall that would tie in with several other dark accents throughout the room. I want the room to feel warm and cozy. The dark paint color helps create that warm feeling… but it wasn’t the easiest to make happen. Back when the room was our office, we installed the plank wall and I painted it a bright white. I knew painting over that with an almost black like color would be difficult, especially in the “gaps” of the plank wall…

You can see in the picture above what I’m talking about. I used my paint brush to push the paint into the gaps, and onto the wall behind the planks, which wasn’t hard, just more time consuming than anything…

I chose to paint the wall Vintage Frame by Valspar in flat. It’s the same color as the wall behind our dining room shelves, and I actually had enough leftover paint from that project to make this wall a free upgrade. Gotta love that!

It took about three coats, but the white was eventually covered. I’m honestly loving the change. The room is coming together beautifully, and just like I imagined…

In other guest bedroom news… I finally painted the dresser and it looks amazing, and brand new…

It’s a cool gray color, and I love how it pairs with the dark green/black plank wall. It’s such a great combo, and I think the cool gray from the fabric will tie in fabulously with the bedding and white curtains. I guess you could say I’m going for a balanced contrast throughout the room… and I’m excited to see the other elements come together!
