The last time I shared a laundry room update, we had just installed the new black slate tile, and the room was officially ready for paint and cabinets! You may remember from when I introduced the house, but the original laundry room was actually just a little section in the garage. There wasn't a room, or barely even a designated space. With the tiny fourth bedroom downstairs that was hardly big enough for a twin sized bed, and a serious lack of storage in this house, we decided to move the laundry downstairs and put the fourth bedroom to good use. I shared our original design plan here, but as things normally do when you're knee deep in fixing up a fixer upper, the plan will often ...

New Walls In The Laundry Room
In order to make the downstairs bedroom into the new laundry room, we had to separate the space from the previous closet by adding a wall. We also needed to have a way to bring plumbing and electric into the room without tearing into the existing walls and causing additional dry wall repair. Because we want to move in at the end of the month, there were certain things we were willing to hire out that would speed up the process. One of them being, building the new walls in the laundry room. I didn't get to take pictures of the entire process since I couldn't be there all day while they were working, but you can imagine my excitement when I saw this... A new wall that ...
Demo’ing The Laundry Room
With the design plan in place, it's officially time to start talking about demo'ing the laundry room. There are three rooms in the house that we're trying to have done in time to move in by the end of the month... Yes, I said the end of the month, as in January. We may be slightly crazy, but I think we'll be able to make it, knowing as soon as all of our stuff is moved in, the real projects begin. In order to move in, we need the kitchen, hall bathroom and laundry room to be complete... which basically means "finished enough to function". With that said, we're moving full steam ahead, making sure all the major demo work is done and we can start putting those rooms back ...
The Laundry Room Design Plan
If you remember the first tour I shared of The Willow House, downstairs there was a teeny, tiny bedroom with it's own walk in closet. Big enough for just about a twin sized bed, it was another room that didn't really make sense. And why the smallest room in the house was the one with a walk in closet, we'll never really understand. The one thing we did know though, from the first time walking through the house, was that we'd be turning this room into the laundry room. I guess I've really been working on the laundry room design plan since that first day, knowing things were going to change. With the existing laundry space in the garage taking up needed parking space, there was no ...
Laundry Room Cabinet Hardware
Cabinet hardware makes a huge difference for cabinetry. Not only is it functional, but it's also a great way to identify and create a style. We recently installed cabinet hardware in our laundry room, and I am completely amazed at how much it has changed the room, and how much more expensive the cabinets look! Yes, after 4 years of living in our home, we finally have cabinet hardware in our laundry room. It's such a great feeling, and I'm so happy I could finally make a commitment with something. :) I kid you not, I have bought about 3 different types of hardware for our laundry room. They were all sitting above the washer and dryer just waiting for us to install them. But as time ...
Laundry Room Sign
I'm still working on the laundry room, bit by bit, but since we completed all the large projects (see here, here & here), I'm focusing more of my time and attention on the details. Much like this one: I wanted to add a farmhouse/ vintage-y vibe to the room, so I made my own sign.... Here's how: First, I started with a basic piece of floor underlayment from Home Depot. It's the same material that we used on the breakfast nook & laundry room plank wall. I bought it pre-cut for around $9.00. Then, I started drawing the shape. I based it off of this, but made my own changes here and there. I measured up 4 inches, then drew a 8 inch line... Then I went ...
Laundry Room Plank Wall
We get to check another big item off of our laundry room to- do list today: the plank wall! I've wanted this to be done for sooo long. And just like every project we've done in the laundry room, this isn't just for looks. It has a very serious role: hiding our builders sloppy work. I mentioned it before, but the laundry room was the last room to be finished before we moved in. Because of few big timing issues, our builders had to get the laundry room done super fast. Needless to say, it got a bit sloppy in a few areas. They also didn't completely understand what I was asking them to do, so it all turned out a bit wonky. By the end of the building process I was too tired to argue. ...
DIY Laundry Room Crates
Our laundry room is now one project closer to being done! Yes! Last weekend Anthony had a spare second, so I begged him to do a project for me. Turns out, he might not be immune to my begging after all. Either that, or he was sick of hearing me talk about laundry room crates. Remember the plan? Well, we're steadily making progress because today it looks like this: Here's how we made those lovely crates: First, we started with the dimensions for the crates, which are custom to our laundry room pedestal. 2 are 15 1/2" wide x 16 1/2" long x 16" tall and 1 is 15" wide x 16 1/2" long x 16" tall. Anthony first started by making the ends... And cut all the ...
Hanging Ironing Board Rack
I'm all about making my life easier. And my ironing board situation was doing anything but that. Every time I needed to iron, I would have to pull it out of the very back of our guest bedroom closet and move it to the kitchen, which is just about in the middle from the laundry room and guest room. You see, Mr. Iron didn't want to make the looong trek to the guest room and the ironing board was too stubborn to live in the laundry room. Meeting in the middle worked for them. Lately though, they've both decided to live in the same room. And, logically, it's the laundry room! Yes, I finally got my act together and made a hook rack for the laundry room so that I could hang my ...
DIY Laundry Room Side Table- Pottery Barn Style
Remember a while back when I showed you the perfect side table for our laundry room? No? It's been awhile.... Well shortly after I proclaimed my whole hearted love for the thing, I talked my welder hubby into making my own version with its own unique dimensions. For starters, our laundry room is long and narrow. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice sized room, it's just not very wide which makes it difficult for furniture. The last thing I need is to be putting clothes in the washer or pulling them out of the dryer and have my booty smack the table... not fun! But to know that we could make a lovely table of our own had me smitten... and quite enthusiastic, I might add. You know ...
Built in Washer & Dryer Surround {Laundry Room Update}
My hubby and I love DIY, but our latest project just about ended it for us! Like, we almost threw in the towel. Gave it up. Turned our heads and never looked back. Walked away. Not because we couldn't do it- never that {We are DIY'ers, hear us roar!}, but seeing how messed up and un-square, uneven and un-level our laundry room was basically made us question our entire house and our builders... Yep. This laundry room project was almost the death of us. Seriously. Luckily, we pushed through and made it out alive.... and we're still married! Double bonus! I have this problem. It's called, Ialwaysthinkthingswillbewayeasierthantheyare. Basically, my words mean nothing to ...
New Laundry Room Paint
Remember when I told you that I wanted to get started fixing up our laundry room? If you've forgotten, I really can't blame you. It seems like I talked about it forever ago. But just because I haven't been blogging about it doesn't mean that we haven't been busy scheming up new ways to improve the space. Before we could make too much progress, the laundry room needed to be repainted. Here's the thing, the current color in the laundry room is called Blue Grass from Benjamin Moore. I really like it, but I've found that each time I walk into the laundry room I keep seeing something different. Something softer and muted. Plus, I really want the laundry room to flow with the rest of the ...
Laundry Room Console Table
I've been bitten. By the furniture bug, that it. The laundry room is getting ready for a complete makeover. Remember? We talked about this. I shared everything that's been brutally bugging me since we moved in. Happy times. Anyways, I was cruising around the great www and I ran into a lovely console table that practically had my name etched into it. It was completely perfect, except for the depth, oh, and perhaps the price... Yes, at $1,099 this table is quite the catch. Source Ah, but look at all the loveliness! The thick wood top with the iron frame. It's a perfect mix. And, it's similar to the original inspiration that I showed you before: Source But, like I stated ...
The Laundry Room Saga…
The laundry room.... sigh.... one of the only rooms that did not turn out the way I had hoped. We've only lived in our new house for about 6 months, but for 6 months I have hated the way the laundry room turned out. We were in such a rush to move into our house, that the builders got a bit sloppy with it... at the time I was just OVER the construction process and I wanted to move in desperately. So, I did what any desperate person would do, and I overlooked the glaringly obvious problems that were getting left behind. Fast forward 6 months from move-in day, and I am irritated. I should have made the builders re-do their mistakes. I should have made them pay more attention to the final ...
