My New Secondhand Finds For Our Home

Today I’m sharing all of my new secondhand finds for our home! Keep reading to see what I’ve found during my latest shopping adventures and what I’ve added to my collection!

While we’re in the process of building our home, I’ve been filling my time by browsing online marketplaces and hunting our local flea markets and thrift stores.

Not only has it been a good way for me to get out the tiny house (the walls are pretty close in there!), but I love that it keeps us excited about our future home.

Now that we know our new floor plan and things are much closer to moving forward, I have a good idea on measurements throughout the house, making it much easier to look for specific pieces I know we’ll be needing.

And since we’re trying to save as much money as possible, getting these secondhand finds for our home is both a fun and exciting way to stretch our budget!

Only problem is, we’re officially out of storage space so we’re getting creative with where to put things while we ever so patiently wait for this house to be built.

Where there’s a will there’s a way, and I’m more determined than ever to make it work. I’m finding so many great pieces! Let me show you!

China Hutch

One of my most recent new finds, is this china hutch. A friend of mine was selling it on Facebook Marketplace and as soon as I saw it, I knew it was meant for our master bathroom.

We have the perfect wall where I was already planning on putting a freestanding linen cabinet and I really wanted it to be more like a piece of furniture.

This one is absolutely perfect in style, shape and size. It does need a little bit of work, which I’m honestly excited about doing. These are the projects I live for right now and it makes the house feel more real.

It’s a two-piece unit and as soon as I saw it, I knew we could swap out the buffet top for a beautiful remnant piece of marble. I can see it finished and it will be such a stunning piece.

I plan on using it to store our extra towels and bathroom items and I love that there’s doors to close off the center section, but that there’s also open shelves on each side for baskets or more of our pretty storage pieces.

Baskets Upon Baskets

My next find was also a Facebook Marketplace find. I knew I had stumbled onto something good when I saw multiple pictures filled with all sorts and shapes of beautiful baskets. But what I didn’t know, was that my mom and I would arrive to actual basket heaven.

Baskets literally upon baskets. A son was selling his mother’s basket collection and she had a beautiful collection! I couldn’t help myself. The prices were amazing and there were so many unique baskets.

I left with my entire SUV filled to the brim with baskets. There was just enough room left for my mom, Ania and I. Some of my family members thought I might have gone a tad crazy when they saw how many baskets I unpacked, but I just couldn’t leave them behind.

There are wicker laundry baskets, picnic baskets, trays, trunks and magazine holders. There are baskets with bases, baskets with handles and baskets to hang on the wall.

And yes, I’m sure I’ll use them. Baskets are one of the easiest decor items to spread throughout the house and they are perfect for styling and organizing. They will be well loved.

Want a closer look at them? I shared a reel on instagram showing off the collection!

End Table

Our area doesn’t have a ton of flea markets, but as soon as I heard there would be one in a small town close by, I marked my calendar and set my alarm. I know flea markets can be hit or miss, and I certainly had to look through a lot of left over garage sale items, but as soon as I saw this little end table, I couldn’t leave it behind.

We need to tighten up the legs a little bit, but I’m also planning on switching out the top for marble. This is perfect for a smaller remnant piece too and I think it will make such a great night stand in one of the bedrooms, or a perfect end table in the living room.

I love the classic shape and the size is perfect! It’s another project on my list, but I’m excited to see it when it’s finished!

Copper Fish Pan

My mother-in-law actually gave me this beautiful pan and I wish I would have taken a good before picture. The copper had aged almost beyond recognition. She was selling it at their garage sale and as soon as I spotted it, I scooped it up. She knows now to let me know whenever she plans on getting rid of anymore copper, because I just can’t get enough! (My copper jam pan won’t be so lonely anymore!)

I came home and got straight to work! I used a fresh lemon and salt and started scrubbing. As soon as the lemon/salt mixture touched the very dark brown patina, it instantly tuned back to its lovely copper finish. I need to find another piece like this one and share my entire process of cleaning it. It was so rewarding and I definitely learned a few tricks that made the copper sparkle.

I’m looking forward to using it in our kitchen and hanging it from a hook somewhere. It’s too pretty to hide in a cupboard.

Egg Basket

Can I tell you just how long I’ve been wanting a wire egg basket? It’s been a long time. My parents have chickens and we’ll have some on our property as well, so it only makes sense that I have a wire egg basket.

I love the classic shape of this one. I found it at a local vintage sale and was maybe too excited about it? My friends, it’s truly all about the simple things in life.

Vintage Pastry Crimper/ Cutters

Let’s just say that Todd knows me quite well because for Mother’s Day this year, along with several other things, he surprised me with a pair of beautiful vintage pastry cutters.

Admittedly, he was somewhat disappointed because he thought they were going to be much larger than what they ended up being, but I on the other hand, couldn’t have been happier.

I know exactly what I’m going to do with them and they will make a beautiful piece of art when I’m done with them. I just need to get one or two more!

Decor Items

At that same vintage sale as the egg basket, I also found this huge antique brass ladle. It’s purely to use as decor, but it will look so good hanging in our butler pantry.

I also found this lovely copper ladle too…

And this silver bowl. It has a lovely amount of patina on it and will look so good and be so versatile around the different shelves in our house.

I’ve also been picking up several little decor items here and there. I love to check our local Hospice store, which is where I found this beautiful linen table runner. I still can’t decide if I will turn it into a pillow cover for a long lumbar pillow (how pretty would that be?), but I know it will easily find a home somewhere in the house.

Needless to say, I’m just getting started and I’m loving the thrill of the hunt! I also can’t wait to see all of these items in our new house!

I’m sure there will be another one of these blog posts coming again soon! I’m always on the lookout for new secondhand finds for our home!
