These gluten free lemon blueberry scones have bright flavor with a tender texture. Full of delicious fresh blueberries and lemon flavor, these scones are perfect for breakfast! Scones are such a wonderfully delicious breakfast treat. Not all scones are created equal, and that's absolutely true when it comes to gluten free recipes. Yes, this recipe uses a ...

Gluten Free Banana Nut Bread

July 2, 2020

This Gluten Free Banana Nut Bread is a long time family favorite. Make it gluten free by using gluten free flour, or use regular flour. This recipe works wonderfully either way! Several years ago, before I was gluten free, I shared one of my favorite recipes... Banana Nut Bread. It's always been one of my very favorites, for multiple reasons, but it wasn't until a few months ago that I tried using the same family favorite recipe, just with gluten free flour. I'll be honest, I didn't have very high hopes that it would turn out. It seems often that even though gluten free flour says it can be used cup for cup, there's something that doesn't quite translate the same. Be it a taste ...

Yum, yum, yum! If you're new here, let me give you a little back story on Scone of the Month. Todd and I both love scones. They're basically one of our very favorite things, and we like to celebrate the weekends by baking a fresh batch of gluten free scones. Because we make them every weekend, I like to get creative with the different scone flavors we try.  My favorite mix, by far, is this one. I've tried so many recipes claiming to be the very best, but none of them have ever come close to how ...

Gluten Free Peppermint Bark Scones

December 18, 2019

After feeling so crummy from a bad cold these past few weeks, I was relieved when I finally started feeling better. I had such big plans for this Christmas season, and sadly, so many of my ideas were put on hold because of my nasty cold. One thing I promised myself though, was that I'd be able to do some holiday baking and make these gluten free peppermint bark scones for Scone of the Month! Fun fact: Todd and I love peppermint bark. Every Christmas season we'll either buy some or make it, and it's delicious to munch on. Because of that, I knew I had to create a peppermint bark scone with my favorite gluten free scone mix.  If this is your first time here, I've shared my love ...

November 18, 2019

It's time for Scone of the Month, and this month's flavor doesn't disappoint. These Gluten Free Turtle Scones are delightful, and so easy to put together!  I've always loved those delicious little chocolate turtles. They're one of my favorite chocolate treats... something about the combination of chocolate, caramel and pecans is so yummy. These gluten free scones have all those tasty flavors, but mixed in with the tender biscuit of the scone.  I used my favorite mix for the base of the scones. You really can't get any better with this scone mix... and until I figure out a custom mix that creates the same incredible scone, this is the best mix... hands down, no ...

Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Scones

October 17, 2019

'Tis the season for all things pumpkin, right? That's why for this month's Scone of the Month recipe, we're going with Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Scones. They're delicious, with just the perfect hint of pumpkin and cinnamon mixed in with chocolate chips. Mmm... Growing up, especially during fall, my mom would make the most delicious pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. They were buttery soft and the perfect combination of pumpkin and chocolate, while still having the cookie base. As I've been making a list of all the new scone flavors we want to try, this tasty combination was at the top of my list. I wanted to recreate one of my favorite cookies into a delicious scone!  If ...

Homemade Canned Peaches by The Wood Grain Cottage

Canned Peaches

August 30, 2019

We've reached the final day of canning week! Today, let's go back to basics with canned peaches. This is perhaps one of the easiest and best places to start if you're new to canning.  Growing up, this is one of the recipes we'd always follow for both peaches and pears. And let me tell you, homemade canned peaches and pears are divine. They beat the taste of the store canned version any day. Bursting with flavor, the fruit tastes fresh and has great texture.   These peaches are perfect straight out of the jar, served with ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese or they can be used in different types of recipes. You can even make homemade peach syrup from a jar! ...

Canned Peach Syrup

August 28, 2019

It's day two of our canning week and today it's all about homemade canned peach syrup! Have I ever told you how much I love homemade fruit syrup? It started when I was a little girl. My mom would cook pancakes for breakfast and she'd make the most delicious pear syrup from her canned pears to go with them. I can remember getting so excited. It was an absolute treat and such a perfect addition to pancakes. Ever since then, I've been hooked and I often make my own version from the various fruits I've either canned or froze. This year, when our neighbors peach tree ripened, they offered for us to pick as many peaches as we wanted. I took my 5 gallon bucket and filled it up in a matter of a ...

Canned Apple Pie Filling by The Wood Grain Cottage

Canned Apple Pie Filling

August 26, 2019

Welcome to the first day of canning week! Starting off our week, is canned apple pie filling! This recipe is seriously amazing. But before we dive into it, let me give you a little back story about my experience with canning.  Growing up, I was raised with a mom and family that loved to can. Every summer we'd have a big garden bursting with so much produce, we'd spend weeks canning everything and saving as much as possible. Our winter dinners, and so many other meals throughout the year, would almost always include some of our home canned items.  We would can everything from vegetables to fruit, and some of my best childhood memories are those spent around the kitchen ...

My Favorite Gluten Free Mixes by The Wood Grain Cottage

My Favorite Gluten Free Mixes

March 27, 2017

In the past I've shared that I'm gluten intolerant, so our house is basically 100% gluten free besides the few "normal" things Anthony likes to eat. In the beginning, it was difficult to find enjoyment in food. I felt like I was shoved on an island, not knowing what I could or couldn't eat, and being rather limited in what I "could" eat. I was determined to still enjoy life, by finding and creating food that tasted good. Luckily time, and trial & error has helped me figure things out. Now days, I don't find it a challenge at all... except when eating out or visiting family and friends, but even that has gotten better with time.  So today, I wanted to share my favorite gluten free ...

Raspberry Rhubarb Jam

August 14, 2014

It's really, really felt like fall lately. And as much as I've loved summer, I've been soaking up the slightly cooler temps and the few changes I've noticed in our surroundings. And to top it off, it's raining right now, which makes me want to snuggle up on the couch with a blanket and great book. :-D Anyways, as you might know, I live on a farm in rural Colorado. My parents have been farming large amounts of acreage, & raising cattle, since before I was born. With that, I grew up spending my summer & fall preserving and canning. Every year, my mom grows a big garden and we spend weeks, upon weeks canning everything from tomatoes, salsa, pickles, okra, homemade rotel, green beans, ...

And if you follow me on Instagram, you got a sneak peek of what I was up to while they were busy in the tractors... Because I have such a special place in my heart for each those hardworking guys, I decided to surprise them with their own Mini Cherry Pies. Today I thought I'd share the recipe. Perfect Fluffy Pancakes

February 28, 2014

I don't generally share a lot of recipes, but I do like to share recipes that warm my heart. And these perfect fluffy pancakes are one of those recipes. Growing up, my mom stayed at home with my brother and I. She had breakfast ready and on the table every morning. I have so many amazing memories from those wonderful mornings. And I always looked forward to her pancakes. Now whenever I make them, I'm brought back to my school days. Those memories are pure gold. Sometimes there's nothing better than sitting around the table sharing a pancake and great conversation. It's a fabulous way to start the day... and my mom knows that anytime she wants a good morning conversation, all she needs ...

Peanut Butter Cookies

July 2, 2012

Happy Monday everyone! Before we moved and built our new home we lived on a wonderful street with the sweetest neighbors. My husband had recently undergone a big knee surgery and I was busy being his nurse. One of our awesome neighbors, Cindy, surprised us with a platter of delicious peanut butter cookies. They were awesome! When I returned the platter I told her how much we enjoyed the cookies and that I would love her recipe. A couple weeks later Cindy knocked on our door with a package in her hand. Rather than writing down her recipe on a recipe card, Cindy bought me the same cookbook as hers, which happened to be from 1968 when she got married. Very cool. She even filled it with sweet ...
