Four Reasons We Chose Carpet For Our Bedrooms

Dreaming of new flooring? Here are some great reasons why we chose carpet for the bedrooms in our home.

Since I recently shared the tutorial for installing our laminate flooring throughout the house, I wanted to also share the four reasons we chose carpet for our bedrooms rather than installing the laminate floors. To be honest, we thought long and hard about installing the laminate in our bedrooms as well, but in the end, carpet won out.

I know there are so many people who prefer a hard surface flooring throughout their entire home, but that’s just not us. Here’s why.

Four Reasons We Chose Carpet For Our Bedrooms by The Wood Grain Cottage

1. Carpet Is Soft & Warm Underfoot

One of the biggest deciding factors, was the fact that carpet is soft and warm underfoot. We enjoy stepping out of bed and landing on a soft, plush surface. Sure, we could have created the same effect with a big area rug, but ultimately, we kept going back to carpet. It’s warm in the winter, and Todd kept saying how badly he wanted a warm surface under his feet.

2. Dust Bunnies Under The Bed Drive Me Crazy

While we were doing some of the hefty remodeling on the house, we lived in a rental. Every room in the house had vinyl wood floor. And while it was lovely, dust bunnies would constantly collect under the bed. Every week, I’d stretch the vacuum as far as I could underneath the bed, but I couldn’t ever get all of them without moving the bed. As hard as I’d try, they’d sneak out from under the bed and float across the floor. It drove me crazy. While I realize, there’s still a form of a dust bunny collecting under our bed on the carpet, they’re not nearly as invasive and I don’t feel the need to pull the bed away from the wall to vacuum underneath nearly as often.

3. Patterned Carpet

I honestly had to talk Todd into doing a form of “pattern” on the carpet, but once we found a pattern we could both agree on, it was love at first site. I didn’t want the type of carpet used in offices or hotels, but rather a plush, patterned carpet that belonged in the house. It adds the perfect subtle, addition to our bedrooms and another great layer of texture. Carpet has come a long way, and the selection of patterns and color choices is one of the many perks!

4. Noise Control

Most months out of the year, Todd is up and out of the house early. He tries to be quiet, but if there’s another valuable lesson we learned from our rental… walking around on the hard floors is much louder than carpet. Carpet definitely adds an insulated barrier and I hardly hear him leave the room now.

I realize this certainly won’t be the case for everyone, but we’re thrilled with our decision, and we’d do it all over again, especially for our bedrooms. Would I go back to wall to wall carpet throughout the entire house? No, I wouldn’t, but I do think there’s still a place for carpet.

I will also mention that carpet quality adds an extra level of luxe. We found a great, middle ground carpet that feels amazing to walk on! In fact, it’s one of the first things visitors comment on when they ask for a tour of the house… the carpet and how soft it is!  Carpet quality will instantly make itself known, and cheap carpet wouldn’t have been an option for us. It doesn’t wear well and it doesn’t clean up.

If you’re interested in the carpet we have, you can see more about it here. It’s by Mohawk. The pattern is Random Nature and the color is Havana.

  1. I agree with you .. When, we built we put carpeting in all the bedrooms… Easyer to keep up & warmer on the feet !!!! Great minds think alike ??

  2. I completely agree with you! I like wood floors in the house…except the bedrooms! There’s just something so nice about stepping out of bed onto a soft carpet! People’s main argument against carpets seems to be that they get dirty, but with a yearly appointment with the carpet cleaners that doesn’t seem to be an issue for us, even in the kids’ rooms. I think the benefits outweigh the cons and I love the patterned carpet you chose!

  3. We need to replace our upstairs carpeting as well, and have been debating doing hardwood, but I’m also not sold. Enjoyed your article! And I LOVE your carpet choice. Thanks for posting the details. What color paint do you have in your bedroom?

    1. I’m so glad this post was helpful for you! We love our carpet! The paint color in our room is Gray Mist by Benjamin Moore in eggshell.

  4. Hi, do you think your carpet pairs well with gray or griege colored paint on the wall? I love your photos and the color the carpet looks to be in them but the stock pics of this carpet look more golden brown.

    1. I do think this carpet pairs well with gray or greige walls. Our wall color is Gray Mist by Benjamin Moore. I’d say it’s a light greige. We love our carpet!

      1. Thanks! I had this carpet installed in all three of my bedrooms! You’re so right-this carpet is ????????

  5. I love your carpet! Is it still holding up well? I have been trying to decide between mohawk and dreamweaver carpet. Pros and cons listed for both with all the reviews I have read.

  6. I love the carpet. We’re actually looking to buy this same carpet but can’t decide on color. Havana is on our short list. Do you think it’s dark enough to hide dirt/stains ok? We will have it on high traffic stairs so want something that won’t show dirt too badly. We’re between Havana, Aberdeen, Beachfront, and Gazelle. It’s so hard to find pictures of carpet online so I’m so glad you posted this article!

    1. Thank you! We love this carpet! The color is perfect in so many ways, and I would think it would be good for hiding dirt as well. I hope that helps! 🙂
