Bless Our Home Burlap Sign
Today I’m sharing the project that I created for the Michaels and Hometalk in-store Pinterest party! In case you missed it, I shared all the details in yesterdays post! For my project, I chose to use the 16 x 20 burlap panel. I couldn’t wait to make a big framed sign! To make it, I started with a black frame and the wrapped burlap panel. Then, I removed the glass from the frame and placed the burlap inside… With the burlap inside the frame, I used a stencil, from Michaels, with an olive leaf branch and centered it inside the frame. Because I wanted to have 2 branches, I spaced them both evenly in the frame, then traced a part of the stencil onto the burlap for easy placement later… Once they were evenly spaced, I used a bit of tape to keep the stencil in place… Then I used some black craft paint and a round sponge to dab the paint over the stencil… With the design painted, I carefully lifted up the stencil and washed off the paint with hot water. Once the stencil was clean, I just flipped it over and did the exact same thing to the opposite side… For the wording, I used my silhouette design studio and created “bless our home”. I printed it out as a “mirror image” (or backwards) on black silhouette heat transfer material… I separated the transfer material from its plastic backing and carefully started to remove the excess material… This step was a bit tedious, as I didn’t want to rip any of the wording, but I found a razor blade to be very helpful… This is what it looked like face up… I carefully placed the wording on top of the burlap and used a tape measure to get it centered… Then, I pressed the sticky side of the plastic firmly onto the burlap and placed a cloth on top of it… I set my iron to the cotton setting, no more than 300 degrees, and ironed the wording on for about 60 seconds per section of the wording my iron covered… After a few attempts, the plastic finally lifted off of the black wording and I carefully peeled up the plastic… With that, it was finished and ready to display! I must admit, I love the simplicity of it… And I really love the size of it in comparison to the frame… My plan is to hang it in the entry way, but I need to move a few things around, so it’s staying in the breakfast nook for a few days… I happen to think it looks pretty wonderful in there too! But I think it might just look amazing wherever it finds its resting place… This Sunday the 16th, I’m going to be creating a different one in-store! I hope you’ll stop by to see me, and maybe even make a Pinterest inspired craft of your own! I’d sure love to meet you! Also, don’t forget to follow Michaels on Hometalk for a chance to win a Michaels gift card! I can’t wait to see you there!
Could you tell me where you got the shelf that is over this picture, please. Love your blog!!!
THANK YOU so very much, Sonia! The shelf is really old… I’ve had it for years and just recently did a little makeover on it with new stain. I’m sorry that doesn’t help more!
Happy weekend! 😀
