Our Next Big Move!
Surprise! We sold our house and I’m sharing all about our next big move below!
I’ve been keeping a big secret for the last month or so… Todd and I have sold our house and we close right after Thanksgiving! It almost doesn’t feel real saying that, but here we are!
Over the last two years, Todd and I have both felt a strong passion to buy acreage and build a home. You’ll notice I didn’t use the word “house” because we’re wanting so much more than that. This next chapter brings a different phase to our lives. We wanted it to be more of our “forever” or permanent property where we could really create roots and watch them grow as we created the life we’ve both wanted.
And while we’ve loved our Willow House and the process of really transforming this house from top to bottom (literally), we’ve known it wasn’t the place we both dreamed of being for the long term.
Last summer Todd and I began the process of really looking for our next property. We knew we had time to find something we both loved and we also knew that when the time was right, God would lead us to the property He had prepared for us.
Our Next Big Move
I learned a long time ago, that no matter what you want, it always comes back to God’s timing, so we didn’t put too much pressure on a timeframe for when any of this would happen. We knew God would open a door when the timing was right.
And He proved faithful once again.
If you’ve been a long time reader of my blog, you know that I was raised on a farm and that my last house, The Original Wood Grain Cottage, was on a farm. Because of that, living in town has always felt awkward to me. I need room to roam. I think it’s in my DNA since I come from a very long line of farmers.
Earlier this year, Todd and I closed on a 40 acre property that’s been in my family, and farmed by my family, since 1964! The roots run deep. My great grandfather farmed this property and my dad grew up farming it with him. Once my great grand father could no longer manage it, my dad took it over and now he and my brother farm it as well as the other thousand(+) acres they grow food crops on.
To say that Todd and I are happy to keep this piece of property in the family is a huge understatement. We are completely over joyed to add our roots and watch our family grow!
We are so excited to grow and develop this property into our own little homestead. We have such big plans, ideas and dreams for what our property is going to be as we put our time and energy into making everything a reality. It’s going to be a lot of hard work, but we’re so excited for this new adventure and we’ve never been afraid to work hard!
We’re also thrilled for our sweet little Ania. She’s going to love having her own room to roam and we look forward to teaching her in the same ways we grew up.
Right now, there isn’t a house on the property so we’ll be starting from scratch and we’ll hopefully break ground on building our new house early next spring. There’s so much to share about this process and I can’t wait to bring you along for the ride as we design and build not just our next house, but our property as a whole!
In the mean time, “welcome” to where our front porch will be…
Over the last many, many months, I’ve been working with a local architect to help design what I envision our home to look and feel like. It’s been such an amazing process to see my ideas come to life. We’re excited for this home and we’re ready for this home… it’s just not ready for us yet!
While we work on having the house built, which is no small feat with all of the high building costs and supply and demand issues, we’re moving our little family into a tiny house my parents had built for my grandfather on their property. He passed away last year and since then, the house has been sitting empty.
While the the thought of moving into our tiny house hasn’t been the easiest part for me (basically everything we own minus our daily necessities are going into storage), we’re ready to get started on this exciting new chapter!
I look forward to sharing so much more about this special property, our plans for it and the home we’ll be building! It’s about to get really, really good!
Congratulations! Very excited for you snd your family. God is very good and always faithful 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving

Congratulations! That IS the American dream! Wishing you all an exciting, and joyful process. All I could think of while reading the post is Jordan Davis & Luke Bryan song ‘Buy dirt’ one of my old time favorite songs. I hope to someday build my own dream home on some land in the country and live the simple life. Happy Thanksgiving! We all have much to Thank God for. God Bless!
Thank you so much! Yes, it really is the American dream and we’re so excited to get started. You really must be feeling my heart, because that is one song I’ve listened to many, many times as we’ve gone through this process. There’s so much to be thankful for! Happy Thanksgiving!
That is absolutely the sweetest family photo! The love is really coming though!

Just a thought, but we journeyed through a move, a pandemic, and a lifestyle change all at once and found God provided a change in our hearts for “all the important daily stuff” we had in storage. I found what I thought was necessary was only for awhile until my needs changed. Less truly is ENOUGH, and more at times. So much to be thankful for, you will see…it’s a great adventure to build a dream from scratch and watch it come to fruition!
So happy for you and excited to watch along with every post you share.
Congratulations! What an exciting adventure for your family. Can’t wait to see it come to life.
Congratulations!
