DIY Wall Serving Station
Outdoor entertaining is among us! I know I can’t be the only one seeking the outdoors in their free time. And especially since we now have an outdoor furniture set. I am in heaven. 🙂
Today, I am so happy to share another idea for your outdoor space, a DIY wall serving station. Outdoor entertaining spaces can be limited sometimes, so this serving station is a perfect solution to those small space problems.
I haven’t gotten around to hanging ours on the wall yet… We would have to drill into our stucco exterior, so I’m still deciding where I want to hang it. In the meantime, it makes a super cute serving station on our coffee table!
Here’s how I made it:
First, I started with a 1″ x 6″ x 10′ pine board from Home Depot. I then cut it into two 18 3/4″ pieces, two 22 1/2″ pieces, one 17 1/4″ piece, and one 10 7/8″ piece…
With the boards cut, I ran a piece of sand paper along the ends to knock off any splinters…
And then I stained all the boards with Early American by Minwax…
Then, I started making the frame of the box with the two 18 3/4″ pieces and 22 1/2″ pieces…
I ran a bead of wood glue along the end of the long side…
Then attached the side piece and nailed them in place…
I did the same thing to the other sides, then added the 17 1/4″ board to the center of the box…
With it evenly centered, I nailed it in place on both sides, then added the short 10 7/8″ board to the middle of the right side…
Once the board was nailed in place, I cut down a piece of plywood to 2′ x 18″…
I decided to paint the board black, so after it dried, I attached the two hinges on either side of the board…
Here’s what it looked like…
Next, I used 5′ of black chain, cut in half, and attached one part of the chain to each side of the board, 2″ in, 1″ from the side…
Then, I pulled it tight up into the top of the shelf, and screwed it in place…
With each chain in place, I closed the lid, and began installing the hook and eyes to each side of the top shelving…
Then, I turned the serving piece around and added two 3″ corner braces to each side…
Here’s what it looked like all put together…
And just like that, I had a serving station!
I really love the two toned finish. The black and stained wood are lovely together!
Once it’s attached to the wall, I can see it being a perfect place to have a self serve drink center!
And it’s fabulous that it tucks closed when not in use- such a space saver!
Now all you need is the company to entertain!

What a smart idea!! I may have to try this!! I believe I will do a chalkboard paint on the interior – in case I have something smart to say to my guests!! Love your blog!!
Shayna! Love the slim design. I mean, you could do this anywhere. And even not hanging… open on a side table out of the way of traffic flow for serving, then pop-it closed when done entertaining and slip it away. So super versatile!!
