Fixer Upper Update
Well, I’d definitely say it was time for another fixer upper update. The last time I shared one, we were still doing demolition and tearing things apart. These past few weeks have brought major progress and I’m happy to say that we’re so close to putting up new drywall! Woot!
Since our last update, we’ve had new walls framed, all new plumbing and heating installed as well as new windows and the majority of the electrical is done as well.
Here’s what the kitchen currently looks like…
We’ve framed in one of the old windows since that’s where the new cabinets are going, and added in the new, much bigger kitchen window, which will go above the new sink…
The living room/ dining room has had new, bigger windows installed and the ceiling is now raised to the same height as the rest of the house…
Here’s the new raised ceiling. It’s hard to tell in the pictures just how much we raised it, but it was ridiculously low before…
We’re still waiting on the new front door and sidelights to come in, but they’re projecting around July 11th. I’m trying to be patient about it, some days with more success than others. It’s holding up the electrician in that one area, but they’ve been totally awesome!
And if you look into the kitchen from the living room, you’ll see the separating wall is gone and the new header installed…
Here’s a view from the kitchen looking into the dining and living room…
The mudroom/ laundry room also looks a little bit different with the addition of the new plumbing and electrical for the washer and dryer, which we’ve moved from it’s original location…
And oddly enough, the only window that didn’t come in with our order, was the laundry room window. It should be here in a few weeks. Luckily, it was just about the only window that really didn’t have to be done for us to move forward on a few other things. I can’t wait to see how it looks.
The master bathroom is all framed in with the plumbing and electrical in place. It been really fun to see this room take place…
If you look straight in, you’ll see the master shower. The room on the right is the walk in closet. It’s a little bit hard to see the the toilet room and vanity, but they’re there.
The shower is a walk- in. After laying out the space, there was no way to include a bathtub. I’m really happy with the size of the shower and the way everything else laid out…
Here’s the vanity area. The cabinet is going to be 5 ft long with two sinks. The current window still needs to be removed and framed in, which should happen next week.
The hall bathroom looks a bit different too…
And the new windows in the master bedroom…
And second bedroom…
You might notice that the framing is a bit wonky around some of the windows. We’ve fixed what’s needed it and left the rest. You just never know what you’ll find in an old house.
I’m absolutely looking forward to seeing the transformation on the outside of the house as well…
Next week should be a really big week. The electric should be done, drywall will be going in, the outside windows will be trimmed out and several areas of exterior siding will be replaced. We’re also getting ready to start removing some of the old, dated (& dead) landscaping. I’ll be gathering estimates for the new gutters and finalizing some decisions about a few interior finishes. Soon, I’ll share my inspiration board for the house.
This house is really starting to take shape and I’m big time smiling with all this wonderful progress! More to come soon!
P.S.- Just in case you’ve missed anything with the fixer upper, you can see the house when we bought it here, demolition part 1 here, demolition part 2 here and the details on the new floorplan here.
Wonderful progress! So looking forward to seeing the next reveal! Thanks for keeping us updated with your new venture. I’m sure it will be amazing!
