Easy Chalkboard Pantry Sign
Are you ready for one of the easiest projects I’ve ever shared? My mind (and time) have been so totally consumed with all things “fixer upper” that I haven’t had the time (or energy) to spend DIY’ing a big project.
So this month for $30 Thursday, I’m sharing my easy chalkboard pantry sign. It’s cute and easy and cheap. And the best part? It’s takes about 5 minutes to make.
And right now, that’s totally my style. 😀
Just in case you’re new here, $30 Thursday is a monthly challenge where April from House by Hoff, Jenn from Migonis Home and I get together to bring you ideas that you can make for $30 or less!
Here’s what I came up with…
As you may know, our mudroom has been undergoing a mini makeover for a little while now. And, I’m to the point where I’m starting to add all those small little details. This chalkboard pantry sign is one of them.
And did I mention that it’s easy? Total win win. Here’s how I made it, although you probably already have it figured out! 😀
First, I started with this little wood plaque that I picked up for $5.00 at Hobby Lobby…
Then, I gave it a few coats of black chalkboard paint….
Once it was dry, I rubbed chalk all over it and hung it with Command strips….
Then, to add the wording, I printed it out from my computer. The font is called, Volutes.
I flipped it over and rubbed the entire back with chalk…
Taped it to the plaque…
And firmly traced the front side with chalk…
Once I pulled off the paper, I was left with this…
I used a piece of sharpened chalk and traced over it…
It’s a simple project, but I’m so happy with the way it looks…
And I like that I can mix up the saying now and then…
I also love that it fits inside most of my wreaths, like this cotton beauty.
April and Jen are also sharing their fabulous ideas!
April gave this wicker chair a wonderful makeover… I love the yellow!
And Jen is sharing this lovely latitude and longitude sign to add nautical flair …
And just in case you’re looking for more $30 Thursday projects, be sure to check out our Pinterest board. It’s specifically dedicated to all our projects and ideas that can be made for $30 or less!
I’ll be back soon to share an update on the fixer upper… it’s rapidly changing!
P.S. Next week I’ll also be sharing the details on our new pantry door that you’ve spied above. 😀
I have to ask where did you get that wonderful wreath?!? I just LOVE it!!! The sign is darling also, I really like how you transferred
the writing.
THANK YOU so much, Kimberly!I love the wreath too! I bought it from Antique Farmhouse! Love, Love, Love! 😀
I really like your ‘pantry’ sign, and so simple. What really seems to define the sign and bring it up a notch is your wreath. The 2 together makes me want to do this project.
I have to go along with Brocanteuse Rose and ask where you got the wreath, or did you make it? It is outstanding. Pat.
THANK YOU so much, Pat! I love the wreath too! I bought it from Antique Farmhouse! Love, Love, Love! 😀
I love this Shayna…I honestly never knew how to transfer a font to a chalkboard. It’s so easy! Your pantry door is wonderful and I don’t even know what to say about that wreath. I guess amazing will have to do. 🙂
THANK YOU so much, Ann! You are the sweetest! 😀
MUST. HAVE. THAT. WREATH! lol;) Chalkboard signs… we REALLY, have been separated @ birth… Love them! Nicely done, Shayna! Blessings & <3

Hi Shayna-
Love this and so many of your projects- you have great style. Question- I notice you use the silhouette very often. I have a cricut, which I’m guessing is similar, but the cost to get a variety of cute fonts adds up fast. Can you talk to why you picked the sillouette and all the things you can do on it? I am wondering if switching is the same deal as the cricut of if it’s a better move for me. Thanks!
Hi Lacey! Yes, I do love my Silhouette! 😀 It’s quite awesome and so versatile! I probably know only half of what it can really do. The silhouette is absolutely fabulous with fonts. Whatever fonts you have downloaded to your computer can be cut with the silhouette. Any time you want a new one, you just download it. It has its own software for the computer where you can design anything you want. From there, you send it to the silhouette and it cuts it. I felt like I was getting more bang for my buck with the silhouette. So far, I’ve used it to cut so many things. It’s great with vinyl, paper, cardstock, and freezer paper, which I use a lot of. There was definitely a little bit of a learning curve for me, but once I figured it out, I was on a mission! 😀
Let me know if you have more questions! 😀
Thank you so much!
