Powder Bathroom Vanity Makeover
Remember when I showed you a sneak peak of our powder bathroom? We’re still making great progress, but today I’m sharing how I transformed our vanity!
Because our powder bathroom is such a small room, I really wanted it to be light and bright. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the way the vanity looked with the dark finish, but lately it made the powder bathroom look like a black hole- the exact opposite of what I wanted.
Once we had the vanity removed from the bathroom, I took off the drawer hardware and wiped everything down with a clean rag.
Then I started painting. For this, I used the new Chalky Finish paint from DecoArt and used their new color, Everlasting.
I took full advantage of the chalk paint reputation and didn’t sand an inch before I painted. I started on the drawer. The coverage was great and after two light coats, the majority of the previous color was covered.
Using long, even brush strokes I added the third and final coat…
I really loved the way a tiny bit of the dark finish peeked out from beneath the white, so I left it and moved on to distress.
I lightly distressed the edges with fine grit sandpaper. The original vanity color peeked out just enough to give it a great layer of depth!
After distressing, I wiped the vanity down again, then went over it with cheesecloth to remove any remaining dust. I waxed the vanity with DecoArt’s new Clear Cream Wax. It went on beautifully!
After buffing the wax, I let it sit for a little while, then installed the drawer and hardware.
With the plank wall finished, we reinstalled the vanity.
It’s never looked better!
I am so happy with the finish. I love that’s it’s semi-transparent.
And I love, love, love the light distressing! It made everything pop!
It looks simply fabulous!
I love the way our powder bathroom is coming together and the vanity has had a huge part in that. I have a few more projects to share, so stay tuned!
You can find the new Chalky Finish paint online at Home Depot! They have so many fun colors to choose from too! Happy Painting!

I’ve been waiting for this post!!! I fell in love with that vanity when I saw it on your progress update awhile back. Can you tell me where to find the vanity/brand??? We’re getting ready to start a bathroom renovation of our own. Thanks in advance!!!!
THANK YOU so much, Stephanie! I’m so glad you enjoyed the post… and sorry to make you wait! 😀
We bought the vanity at Home Depot! I’ve seen a few similar ones at the store… maybe look there!
Happy Shopping!

Home Depot is doing a Vanity event now. They have them 2 or 3 times a year and they get special buys that they dont have all year round. They sell one all year called Ashland that looks a lot like this one but the Special Buys are always less expensive.
I just saw that too! One is really similar to ours. We bought ours as a special buy, and it was definitely the way to go for the bargain! 😀

What a fantastic transformation! Your bathroom is beautiful and your vanity came out great. I’ve never used chalk paint and am not sure how it differs from other paints but I plan to find out. My most favorite thing in your house is your plank walls. We are about to build a home and I am trying to set a limit on how many plank walls I can put in it. The laundry is my first choice…..
THANK YOU so much, Dianne! I love how it turned out! Chalk paint is great, it’s a little bit different than regular paint. The paint goes on with less brush strokes and there is no prep work needed! Gotta love that!
And for the planks, I’ve yet to discover my limit. I just really love them! 😀
Happy building!

Beautiful! I liked the dark as well. But…the lighter version makes everything bright and cheery!! Another job well done!
THANK YOU so much, Diane! It definitely makes things feel light and cheery! 😀

Thank you so much for introducing me to this brand of chalk paint. I went to the Home Depot website and saw that they have lots of pretty colors. Would you let us know how much paint and wax you used for this piece of furniture? Thanks.
Hi Cindy! They do have lots of pretty colors! I used around 1 cup of paint for the dresser- it went a long way! I probably used about 1 tbs of wax- it went a long way too!
Happy painting! 😀

Hi Shayna!
Sorry for my delayed response on this post–but I just LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I also remember when you gave us a sneak peek of the powder room and concur that those plank walls are definitely my FAV! While I know this post was sponsored by DecorArt, what are your thoughts in comparison to the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint? I just started using it a couple of months ago and love it, but it is quite pricey (and hard to come by) and the DecorArt seems to be significantly less expensive and more affordable. I’m totally going to begin using this if it’s going to give me a similar result.
Thanks for the post and for sharing another piece of your beautiful home!
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie! THANK YOU so very much! I wish I could compare products for you, but I’ve never used Annie Sloan chalk paint. I’ve really wanted to try it, but the price has always stopped me.
I can tell you though, that the DecoArt paint is really easy to work with and the coverage is excellent. I’ve painted a few pieces with it now and they’ve all turned out fabulous! Brush strokes are non existent, coverage is wonderful and prep work isn’t required! I would definitely recommend!
Hope that helps! 😀
-Shayna
Oh that definitely helps, Shayna! I see you used about a cup to coat that entire vanity so it seems to be just as concentrated. Awesome! I had no idea this DecoArt Chalk Paint even existed before your post so you’ve totally turned me onto this now.
Thanks again! 🙂
Stephanie
Nice job!I can’t wait to try this paint. I’m adding sort of a Butler’s Pantry area in my kitchen and I wanted the same door style as my stock cabinets but I wanted them in an off white with a countertop the same warm harvest color as the cabinets. I may give this a test drive on the side of my existing cabinets and see how it goes. I can always buy a side panel to cover it if it looks horrible.
THANK YOU so much, Elise! I really like the paint, and have used it on a few different pieces now.
Happy painting! 😀
