The small town Colorado girl who’s obsessed with home and everything that entails! I’m a creative, a decorator, a day dreamer, a huge fan of scones, and I’m passionate about loving where I live and making a home.
See how my huge front porch welcome sign transforms our entry and learn how to make your own with my step by step tutorial!
I love to make family and friends feel welcomed when they come over, so I figured I’d put out the welcome sign!
And this one just happens to be huge! Literally.
I think it’s just dreamy…

Here’s how I made it… It was SO easy! You’re going to be chuckling at the end of the tutorial!
I started with these pre-cut letters from Hobby Lobby…
I painted them with some leftover exterior paint, Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore…
Once the letters were dry, I placed them on my weathered board (which I snagged from my parents farm, just like this one).
Once I was sure everything would fit with the proper spacing, I used my super hot glue gun and glued them right onto the board. Those letters are stuck!
*Note: Don’t want to use hot glue to attach the letters? You can also nail them in place… just be sure to fill your nail holes!
With the sign done, I just propped it up on our front porch. I told you it was really easy!
I just love how it looks!
And it’s so welcoming!
Heck, even I feel welcomed walking up!
I’m in love with the combination of the aged wood, rusty nails, sleek letters and cornstalks… which I chopped down from our field!
Our front entry is officially dressed for fall… You can see the rest of it here.
I’m in disbelief of how amazing this project looks for how easy it was to make! Those are the best kind!
Psst… If you want more fall goodness, see the rest of our front porch here and tour our home here.

I noticed your sign last night on Fox Hollow Cottage, and I am curious- what is the color on your front door?
Hi there! So happy you found me! 😀
Our front door color is Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore.
Hope that helps!
Is your door that color on the inside too?
Super Easy and Super Cute! Where I live in New Mexico…hot glue doesn’t work too well. When it is hot, it falls off and when it is cold, it pops off! But I love it!
THANK YOU so much, Sharon! Super glue works great for our area & porch, but if I had the hot and cold problem, I would definitely nail them on! 😀
Have a great weekend!
Too hot for us in Texas too so just used small nails and it worked wonderfully. I put WELCOME on one side for most of the year, and BELIEVE on the other for those special holiday times!!!! LOVE IT!!!! I also used an old picket from our fence we replaced!!!!
you are so blessed to have corn stalks and a parent’s farm where you can score all these wonderful things! I love how it turned out!:)
THANK YOU so much, Tina! I AM blessed to have corn stalks and my parents farm! It’s loaded with goodies! 😀

Beautiful! and yes, so very easy I’m thinking I need to make one for my front porch 🙂 I’m not sure I want it to say welcome though, seeing as I don’t want “un-welcomed” people thinking they are… hmmmm maybe one that says Autumn Blessings?
THANK YOU so much, Amy! 😀
I think one that says Autumn Blessings would be fabulous! 😀
PINNED…you are a genious! Christine from Little Brags

I love this! I now want to go raid my dad’s shop to see if he’s hoarding any old wood (he can’t throw wood out, even when it’s old). Love all of this!
THANK YOU so very much, Megan! 😀
Happy wood hunting!
That looks so amazing on your front porch. I love how you decorated around it as well. What a nice entry!
THANK YOU so very much, Megan! 😀
Do you know the dementions of the board you used
Hi Jennifer! The board that I used is: 11 inches wide x 90 inches tall.
I hope that helps! 😀
[…] cheap, cool, whatever. That is exactly what I thought when I saw Shayna’s post for her Huge Welcome Sign on The Woodgrain Cottage. I have a large porch and didn’t get hay bales this year to […]
Hi! Question — are the letters metal or ?? Love the sign!!
THANK YOU so much, Rachel! The letters are wood composite. I bought them at Hobby Lobby! 😀
I love this! Do you know what size letters you used?
THANK YOU so much, Cheisty! The letters are 9.5″ tall. I hope that helps! 😀

I love your sign and the whole arrangement of things around it. Your door is such a pretty color too!
I just subscribed to wood grain cottage after seeing a pin on Pinterest. I am not a crafty person, but I am going to try to make your welcome sign. The entire front porch is so inspiring. I love it all. We live in the country a ways off the road, so big over-sized decorations is what I need to show up as people drive by. This sign will definitely do the trick. One question – what kind of glue gun and glue sticks do you use? Mine does not get super hot.
Welcome Diane! I’m so happy to have you! 😀 For the hot glue gun, I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. It’s cordless and made by Surebonder. On the packaging, the glue gun will tell you how hot it gets, at least mine did. I hope that helps! 😀
Thank you Shanya. I’m off to Hobby Lobby.
Ah that is so cute! Our front porch needs to love asap. Such a great idea.
I LOVE this! It turned out beautifully and I love how simple it is! May have to snag these letters when I hit hobby lobby tomorrow too 🙂
What size is the board approx…if you cant find an old piece of reclaimed wood like you used what else would you suggest. I would LOVE to make this but cant seem to find a board like you used. Thanks!
Hi Lesa! The board that I used is 11 inches wide x 90 inches tall. Instead of the reclaimed wood, you could always but a 2 X 10, or a 2 X 12 at your desired length. I hope that helps! 🙂
I love your front door and was wondering what the paint color was? Thanks Tarrin
Thank you so much, Tarrin! The color is Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore. 🙂
I love your front porch, I found the perfect to make this. On the back I am going to paint BELIEVE in red for Christmas! I was wondering how you keep the cornstalks beside the sign standing up? Thank you for the awesome ideas!!!!
Thank you so much, Tammy! Your idea sounds wonderful! The cornstalks were quite sturdy, but I did use some rope to tie them all together, then I fanned out the bottom of them to create a “base”. I hope that helps! 🙂
Your porch looks great!!
What is the name of the paint on your front door?
Thank you so much, Sherri! The paint color is Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore. 🙂
We love everything about this and want to share it in our new Thanksgiving post! I’ll get you a link when it’s live.
Great stuff Shayna

Thanks for your great idea. I plan to do the same thing….only I want to turn it 90 degrees and say FRONT PORCH. I’ve been looking for a pre-made sign & I ran across your idea, LOVE IT!
I absolutely love this and am planning on making these as welcome gift bags for my sister’s wedding. What kind of paint did you use? Are of my paint is water soluble, and I am worried that the paint will eventually run or fade if water gets on it. Did you seal the paint somehow afterwards? Thank you!!!
I’m so glad you like this, Lisa! I used leftover exterior paint for the letters. I’ve never had any issues! 🙂
