Fixer Upper Update: Cabinets & Tile
Happy weekend! I meant to get this post up yesterday, but it didn’t happen, so happy Saturday! 😀
Things at the Fixer Upper are moving right along and today’s update is a good one… It’s all about the cabinets and tile.
Mainly I’ll be sharing the kitchen and master bathroom because the rest of the house had people working in them, but you’ll definitely get a feel for the house and how everything is shaping up!
One of my favorite things, is the way it flows seamlessly from room to room. It all fits together wonderfully and that’s exactly what I wanted it to feel like when I was picking out all the finishing touches. 😀
Here’s the kitchen so far!
Pardon the mess, they’re working like busy bees…
I’m a huge fan of white cabinets, so it was an easy decision when it came time to pick them out. I had one of our local cabinetry companies order them (same company that did our house) and I couldn’t be happier! I went bright white and simple. The doors style is called “Oxfordshire” and it’s a simple frame around the edges. That’s one of my very favorite things about them. They’re simple, and I love that, but I can’t wait to see what they look like with the door hardware. It’s really going to tie it all together. 😀
I also knew we’d be adding a big farmhouse sink, which I bought at IKEA right after we closed on the house.
The cabinets aren’t quite done yet, they still have to come back and adjust all the doors, caulk, fill holes, touch up, etc., but they needed the tile guys to come in and lay the flooring in the laundry room, so they decided to come back once the tile is completely done, which should hopefully be Monday!
And speaking of tying everything together… the subway tile has dramatically changed the kitchen. I can’t wait to see what it looks like once it’s grouted, which will be a light gray.
For the countertops, we went back and forth between installing granite, vs. laminate, but with all the little extra’s we’ve done, and added to the house, I couldn’t justify the extra expense. Laminate counters have come a looong way and the pattern I picked looks great with the kitchen and white cabinets. It’s also going to tie in beautifully with the butcher block island, lighting, hardware… and our selling price point.
The plank wall was another no- brainer for me, and so was the tile wall. I love how they look butting up to each other…
The cabinets and subway tile have drastically changed the house. Every day when I walk in, I’m blow away at how far this house has come… Heck, I even can’t wait to see the before and after pictures side by side!
You may also notice that the baseboard and trim have been installed. Again, I went simple. There’s no design or grooves, just straight and simple. That’s honestly my favorite! 😀
Now for the master bathroom…
The shower is turning out amazing. I went with subway tile for the walls and a white mosaic tile for the shower floor. This picture doesn’t do it justice.
And to keep with the flow of the house, the cabinets and vanity are also white and I used the same laminate…
Sorry it’s so grainy and dark. Those rooms are really dark in person, so I lightened them up! The electrician should be coming back to install the lighting next week.
I’m so excited to see the cabinets & tile finished up… and the hardware installed. This house has come so far and I’m blown away with the transformation. Other than the exterior, which we’ll start painting next week, this house doesn’t even look the same. And once it’s painted, it won’t even be recognizable.
Boxes of faucets, lighting and hardware are starting to pile up…
Wow Shayna, it’s looking beautiful. I love simple, so there’s room for me to go all out with the accessories. Although I am also simple, but decorative there as well.
You are all doing such a marvelous job in this fixer-upper. I wish you were close by, so we could visit with a cup of tea.
Many blessings for you and the family!
Yolanda
Looking SO beautiful Shayna! I love all the finishes you selected for the kitchen!!
Looks Great!! I love the countertop you chose…any chance you know the name of it?? and would be willing share it??? We just moved into a fixer upper and I need to find a new countertop that won’t break the bank.
Thanks!
Cheryl

Someone is going to have a beautiful home. You’ve picked wonderful, timeless finishes!!
This is such a classic look; I love the white on white. Good job!
I am actually surprised at the laminate. It looks so much like granite. It’s been a long time since I’ve shopped for laminate, but you are right – it’s come a long way. I love the white cabinets and the simple Shaker fronts. My favorite would have to be the planked wall. Great job.
Hello!
Do you know if your cabinets were purchased from Cabinets To Go? They look like it and we are thinking of ordering from there. The reviews on line seem pretty 50/50 so I was wondering how your experience was.
Thank you!
Hi there! We actually ordered our cabinets from a local company. Sorry. They are great cabinets though! 🙂
Could you share where you found the counters and maybe what the name of the style is? I adore them and would love to get them in my kitchen. Thank you!
What laminate and cut did you use on your kitchen counters, they look beautiful!
