Wheat Harvest
It’s been a while since I’ve done any sort of update on the farm. The last time I did, we were prepping the fields for planting. That was in March….
Needless to say, everything’s been growing like crazy. Everything is green and lush and lovely.
I love this time of year.
But there’s one crop that sticks out like a sore thumb right now: Winter Wheat.
It’s absolutely lovely in the winter because it’s the only thing that’s green. Then, during the middle of summer it turns the prettiest shade of gold.
It’s extremely itchy, but that didn’t stop me from running around and taking all sorts of pictures.
It’s so pretty.
And I love to capture the process….
From the combining….
To the dumping…
To the transportation & storage…
It’s a lot of hard work…. But it’s a beautiful way to live.
And the scenery is always pretty spectacular too…. even if one lone sunflower really isn’t in the best place. They’re horrible for farmers. They spread like crazy and are considered a horrible weed.
You’d never know that from how pretty they are though…. I’ve always loved seeing them around!
And don’t worry… I made sure to cut my share of the wheat before it went through the combine. I’m planning ahead for fall!
Pssst! The Wood Grain Cottage is now offering advertising spaces! For more information click here.

The heartland of America, beautifully photographed!!!
I also love the solitary sunflower. It’s a nice reminder that when there’s a will, there’s a way. It was not going to be denied a chance to grow and flourish (even if it gives everyone fits!) 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with the wheat you saved.
