Sunburst Stick Wreath
We have this willow tree. It likes to self shed. A lot.
And I like to use the sticks. (See here, here or here for proof!)
We have a good relationship this tree & I. It’s super strong.
As I was driving down our driveway, I noticed that Mr. Willow had been dropping all sorts of sticks.
I marched right down there to collect!
I had a few projects in mind, but in the end I decided to make a sunburst wreath for our powder bathroom.
It’s quite the easy project. Here’s what you’ll need:
-Sticks
-Cardboard (You know I love cardboard…)
-Jute rope
-Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
-Scissors

First, cut a circle out of the cardboard. Mine was about 6 inches wide. Then cut out the center, leaving a pretty wide band.
Now, wrap the entire thing with jute rope.
In a large area, lay your circle center down and add four sticks to each side.
Hot glue them in place, then keep adding sticks.
Keep adding & gluing until you like it.
Then, because I didn’t like that you could see a little bit of the hot glue around the sticks, I made another jute wrapped circle and hot glued it in place.
Done!
It’s added a very rustic feel to the bathroom, which I like. But it’s also a little bit wonky and unexpected. I like that too.
I’m still trying to decide if I should shorten the sticks up a bit, but it’s staying as is for now.
And, double bonus, if I ever want to turn it into a sunburst mirror, all I have to do is replace the center circle with a small mirror. Love that!
Not too shabby for being completely free, right?
It’s added such a nice unexpected touch to the powder bathroom. And it ties in nicely with the gallery wall too.

I love it! Don’t trim it – it’s perfect just like this. Every time I start trimming in one place, then it’ll seem “off.” So, I’ll trim another place to get it to balance. Pretty soon, the whole thing’s BALD!

That’s pretty awesome, love the rusticity and the free form aspect. You can make it how you want really. Like idea also that you can put a mirror in middle instead of cardboard circle. Great way to clean up the yard. I’d have to go visit my neighbor for lots of sticks. Great job, glad you shared. Happy Weekend

do you think it would hold up outdoors?
Hi Mary! I am hesitant to say that it would hold up outdoors… reason being, the hot glue. The sticks are a bit heavy and while I did douse each stick with the glue, I would say the weather would take a toll on it. Perhaps you could use a heavier piece of cardboard wrapped in jute then use a thin wire (like floral wire) to attach the sticks to the cardboard… that could work!
