Black Mudroom Door

See how I easily transformed our little mudroom by painting the door black. I’m sharing one of my favorite paint colors too!

Remember when I talked about painting our mudroom door? Its never been painted since we’ve built our home (… I know…), so it was long over due. I debated about it for a while, and spent my free time looking at paint color chips, but in the end I decided on black.

If you follow me on Instagram, you got a sneak peek while I was doing it…

I chose Onyx by Benjamin Moore in a satin finish. It’s a very true and dark black, which is exactly what I wanted. It’s quickly becoming my favorite black paint color.

I started at the bottom and worked my way up…

I gave it two solid coats, and was left with this:

I still need to go back and add another coat to finish it off. Black paint seems to bring out the roller marks…. I’d also like to switch out the hinges since those came painted white…

We absolutely love it. It’s amazing how much a black door in such a little space can completely change the entire vibe, in a good way.

Now, I need to do something with our pantry door….

Turns out we never really liked that blue door, and since they’re both in the same area, the black door wins out! I have an idea or two, but it requires a big project…

  1. Love it! I don’t think the hinges need changing but we all know what bugs us in our own houses right! Would really like to see a pic of the whole hallway with the door:) I’ve been debating about painting our stained pine wood work white and all the blogs I visit, have much bigger wood work but yours matches-finally! Hence, the desire for me to see the full view-haha!

    1. I have to put my comment on here Because I Totally agree with Lisa R! The door looks absolutely gorgeous, and the hinges blend in so nicely that I didn’t even see them at first, I actually had to go back and look for them! AND (Lol, sorry Lisa, but you took all the words out of my mouth this time) I would love to see a picture of the whole thing from a little further back also. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!!

  2. I love the look of black doors. Your mudroom door looks wonderful. Will it be necessary to paint all the doors in the vicinity black or will you leave the others white?

  3. Keep the hinges white because they blend in with the frame of the door . And Wah Lah you dont even see them at all ! I am going to remember that one for my self ! Dont change them dont paint them its perfect just the way it is . ***** stars for you girl ! Good Job done .
