Two Toned Table

April 21, 2014

A while back I was doing a bit of thrift store shopping when I bumped into a small beauty of a table.

Needless to say, a short while later I was loading it up into the back of my truck and headed home with a big smile on my face.

I just knew it would be the cutest two toned table, and I was right!

It started out as your basic table…

I gave it a couple coats of that lovely blue color, Vintage by DecoArt in their new Chalky Finish paint line.

I tell ya, that paint goes on so wonderfully! Once it was dry, I then waxed it with their clear creme wax.

To transform the top, I used my electric sander with course grit sand paper and removed the protective coat that was on top of the wood…

Then, I started staining it with Early American by Minwax.

After the stain was dry, I applied 3 coats of the clear creme wax to the top. It worked beautifully right over the stain!

I’m so happy with the way it turned out! It’s the cutest little table…. and it looks absolutely perfect with my side chair!

And I absolutely adore the vintage blue paint with the stained top…

And with staining any type of wood, you never know what you’ll get, or how the wood will take the stain. I  happen to love how unique the wood top is. It truly looks old…

And even though I don’t have room for it in our home, it’s a good thing I have a few family members who love it as much as I do!

You can find the new Chalky Finish paint at Home Depot and Michaels! They have so many fun colors to choose from too! Happy Painting!

Who sells this paint? Do you like there wax? Is it chalk paint? How many coats of paint and wax? & Did you wax the table top? It looks fabulous!

How did you prepare the table legs for the paint? Did you prime it first? I have a vintage dinette from 1950’s that belonged to an elderly neighbor and I would love to paint the legs and chairs however, I’m very nervous to take that first step for fear of mucking the whole thing up.

Hi Megan! For the table legs, I wiped them down with a clean damp cloth, let them dry, then started painting them. The chalk paint I used doesn’t require priming. To start, just apply light coats. You really can’t mess it up. 😀
