It looks great!!!! I used to have one of those but California King in the late 70’s and early 80’s……loved it!! But I agree, what you did to it makes it look real pretty!!! And expensive!! Good job!!

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU Connie! I”m so glad you like it…. and how cool that you used to have one! πŸ™‚

  3. Linda says:

WOW!!!! Looks like the real deal! Yes it does look like you bought it at the Pottery Barn!

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU Linda! I’m still a little in shock about how much it really does look like the PB version. πŸ™‚

  4. April Hoff says:

Wow…thrift store find of the year! I seriously can’t even believe that price! I have one (very similar to the PB one) that belonged to my Grandma (and her mom before her)! This will turn into a family heirloom! πŸ™‚

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU April… I am still so surprised to have found this! Seriously. You’re probably right too! I can’t see myself getting rid of it for a loooong time πŸ™‚

OK Shayna! I need to go to your thrift store and have you pick something up for me because you always find the bests things and transform them beautifully! This is so beautiful, I love how you transform this headboard and it looks so much like the one from Pottery Barn but yours it’s prettier ! πŸ™‚

  7. Rhonda says:

What a great find and love how you transformed it into such a beauty!

  8. Kris says:

Great score!!! Sometimes you just gotta trust that little voice that says, ‘you can take 5 minutes to check out this store’…it has never let me down. Your bed is stunning with it’s new paint job!!

  9. Terri C says:

Shayna, I LOVE what you did with that brass bed! I have a white iron bed and we have been thinking about painting it black for our youngest son’s room. Your project has given me the inspiration and motivation I needed. Thanks !

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU Terri! I’m so glad you like it- and that it gave you that extra little punch of inspiration and motivation! I bet it will turn out fantastic! πŸ™‚

  10. Betsy says:

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS !!!! I’m in my mid-60’s and I’ve always loved repurposing furniture. Buying new just isn’t my thing and of course, the money savings is always so enticing !!! My hubby and I started our marriage 42 years ago with hand-me-down furniture and through the years we’ve furnished our home with garage sale, estate sale and thrift store finds !!! You are truly an inspiration to all !! Keep up the good work.

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU Betsy! I loved reading your comment! πŸ™‚
      Big hugs to you!
      -Shayna

      • Betsy says:

Hubby and I have always preferred “character and interest” in our home furnishings rather than have the place look like a department store layout !!! Anyway, it’s more fun to repurpose. I’ve been sitting here planning our track of garage sales for this weekend !! We’re always looking for something fun. We’ve even help furnish our children’s homes with garage sale finds. I applaud you for all your great ideas and hard work. It’s easy to just run into a store and buy something new but it takes a great imagination to see how things can be repurposed. I truly admire your talents.

  11. Gorgeous! What an amazing find! I bet you felt like you’d won the lottery. πŸ™‚ Aren’t thrift store finds the best?

  12. I can’t believe I haven’t found your blog until now! LOVE this makeover!! Did you prime before spraypainting? How did the paint take to the lacquered brass??? I’m kicking myself for getting rid of a bedframe like this, never thought paint would stick to that brass…

    New follower! (thru bloglovin)

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU Anne! I am so glad you found me and I’m happy to have you as a new follower! πŸ™‚
The spray paint that I used had the primer included. The paint took to the brass beautifully and everything still looks fabulous!
      LOVE it!

  13. Amber says:

Loved your bed so much! It was my pick for features at the Give Me The Goods Monday!! Please come by and grab your button!!

  14. Mia says:

I absolutely ADORE your little home. You have a great eye for decor and I am so happy that you were able to “score” the house with your letter to the owner. I am sure the old owners were touched to know how much you loved it. I always think that if you LOVE your house, it will LOVE you back! Good luck with it and your little family!!

  15. Katrie says:

Was just wondering if there are any tricks or special advice you would give about doing this I have a brass headboard and footboard just like this and want mine to look like yours πŸ™‚

    • Shayna says:

Hi Katrie! You’re so lucky to have this headboard and footboard! I just love it! Honestly, mine has held up wonderfully! If I were to do one thing differently, it would be to spray it with a light clear top coat once the spray paint dried. I would also let it “cure” for a few days in the garage before bringing it inside and using it. Mine suffered a few small scratches at first, but since then, I think the paint has hardened. I hope that helps! πŸ˜€

  16. Kayt says:

Hi! I’m thinking of doing this and wondering how yours has held up? I’m worried about scratches. Thanks!!

    • Shayna says:

Ours has held up wonderfully! No scratches, other than when I first put it in our bedroom. Even those are minor, but if I were to do it again (which I totally would), I would wait at least a week after it’s sprayed before moving it in. I hope that helps! πŸ™‚

  17. Heather Reitter says:

What spray paint did you use? I have similar bed frame that I want to do the same thing to it’s brass as well with white and I’m trying to modernize it. I’ll post pic after it’s finished.

  18. Candy says:

I have that exact same bed frame. I bought it in the early 1980’s and have wanted to do something like this. Thank you for sharing!

  19. Kim says:

    Hi Shayna!
I just found your blog today and I’m LOVING it! I’m hooked!
I found it because I was looking to see what other people have done with painting brass beds. The bed I have found is almost exactly like yours! I’m wondering…did you ever add extensions to the headboard to raise it up higher? If so, would you mind sharing what you did? I was thinking metal conduit pipe pieces to add to it, but we can’t come up with a good idea for attaching leg extensions…Please help!
    Thanks!
    Kim
