Dreaming of an Office
If there's one room that we really need to focus on, it's our home office. I'm dreaming of it big time! We do currently have an office, but I haven't spent much time on it. We really need to change that. Anthony and I have both agreed that it needs to be a priority. Our simple organization system isn't cutting it. I have boxes full of supplies, fabric piled on top of them and more stuff on top of the fabric. That makes it a bit hard to find things. And I hate not being able find things! Nothing gets me more irritated. We've been thinking of different ways to add storage while still making everything pretty and functional. I think we've got it figured out, and I've even scored a few ...
Dining Room Table Plans
Is it weird that I already know what I want for Christmas? Because I totally do. In fact, I've already placed my order. Yep, on top of everything else my hubby has to do, I've placed my order for a new dining room table. I was a bit thrilled and really shocked that he didn't totally dismiss the my idea the second it left my mouth. Here's what I'm thinking: (Source) Stunning, right? He could even build it like this if he wanted too! (Source) Either way, I think they're completely lovely. And because Anthony is a welder by trade, he'll get to use his skills and build the frame and ends out of metal. Just like our laundry room table, I'm planning on doing a thick wood top. The ...
Friday Favorites
I've been working on a few different projects (coming soon) and Anthony and I are getting ready to start on a several powder bathroom projects... I can't wait! In the mean time, I thought I'd share a few lovely images that have left me so inspired and motivated! Here they are: I'm completely in love with everything in this home office... sigh... via: Tessa & Hans Neleman This bathroom has so many unique touches... lovely! Via I'm completely smitten with this bedroom... Via From the very first time I saw this dining room, I was in love. Everything is perfect! Via And just look at these light fixtures... They're identical to our breakfast nook light. Plus, this ...
Powder Bathroom Inspiration: Take 2
I've been known to switch up a plan from time to time. I'm a wanderer, a drifter of sorts. I think that I'll have the perfect plan for something, totally decide on doing it, implement a few things, then change my mind. I guess that means it wasn't turning out as I had hoped.... Our powder bathroom has been stuck in a rut for a while now... You might remember my first inspiration post that I shared here. I still love everything about those rooms, but I've found a different inspiration in them then I previously shared. Funny how that works, huh? But, the thing is... I have finally created the room in my head. From top to bottom. I can see the accessories, the colors, the wood tones ...
One Year Later…
It doesn't even seem possible, but we just celebrated one year in our home. Yep, one year ago we were busy moving in and unpacking. I can remember the excitement of opening boxes and looking at things that had been in storage for waaay tooo long--- and the relief that the building process was over! Don't get me wrong, it was so much fun to design and build our home, but it was exhausting at times and we were so over it towards the end! But now that we've been here a year, I couldn't help but look back at where we started. It's amazing to see what can happen in a year, and our home certainly hasn't been an exception to that. Let's take a peek at where we started and where we're ...
A Women’s Haven
HELLO! I just wanted to pop in today and let you know that I'm guest posting at A Women's Haven. The lovely Chas asked if I would be interested in sharing our home and few reasons why it's truly our haven. You all know how much I LOVE "home", so I was more than happy to agree! Be sure to stop by and check it out.... I'm also showing a sneak peak of our breakfast nook. I still have a few things left to do, but it's a sneak peak none the less. :) . ENJOY . ...
Dining Room Shelving
It's no secret that we have several rooms "in progress". For the most part, I hate leaving rooms partially finished or deemed as a "construction zone" for too long (they make me crazy), but I think they turn out the best when they evolve over time. Sure, I have a plan and inspiration for each room, but there's nothing worse than having a closed mind when transforming a room. Right? And just because I already have a few other rooms in progress, doesn't mean I can't add one more to the list. Currently, I'm working on: -The Breakfast Nook- almost done! -The Laundry Room -The Powder Bathroom -The Kitchen And now: -The Dining Room Although to be entirely fair, I've been ...
Powder Bathroom Art & Meaningful Items Wrap Up
Happy March 1st! Today marks the end of my "Adding Meaning to Our Home" mini series, and I'm wrapping up everything I've done to make our home extra special! But before I do that, we have one last thing that makes me happy, happy. If you follow on facebook, you might have noticed that I posted a picture a while back of my gallery wall in progress. It's still not done but I can show you a few of my favorite parts- which just happen to mean a whole lot. Right after Anthony and I got married (4 years ago this May- time flies!), my mom came to visit and brought a surprise present for our home. Love her! It was my first painting- and I absolutely love the serene little cottage ...
Kitchen Backsplash Inspiration
Remember when I told you about the project goal list for 2013? Well, today we're going to be exploring number # 3 on that list: Kitchen Backsplash. When we built our house we had to decide on the areas where we wanted to splurge up front. Things like appliances, cabinets, stucco, rock work and real wood flooring were all on our list. Things that could be added over time weren't as important. For instance, I knew that I really wanted double ovens and they totally changed the layout of the kitchen, so we decided to include them in our budget. Double ovens are much easier to plan for up front, and we really weren't interested in doing a total gut job on the kitchen anytime soon. Plus, ...
Creating My Signature Style
Recently I came across several amazing posts by Darlene at Fieldstone Hill. After reading about the importance of finding and creating my own signature style, I was inspired to do just that. I found it a little ironic that I stumbled upon her site. Lately, I've been working on distinguishing my style and she provided so many excellent tips to get started. We all know that sources of inspiration are everywhere. From magazines, to Pinterest and blogs, there are so many great ways to get inspired. While this is wonderful thing, I find that it can leave me a little bit confused with what I really like. In order to create my signature style, I had to identify what I really loved and ...
The Laundry Room Saga…
The laundry room.... sigh.... one of the only rooms that did not turn out the way I had hoped. We've only lived in our new house for about 6 months, but for 6 months I have hated the way the laundry room turned out. We were in such a rush to move into our house, that the builders got a bit sloppy with it... at the time I was just OVER the construction process and I wanted to move in desperately. So, I did what any desperate person would do, and I overlooked the glaringly obvious problems that were getting left behind. Fast forward 6 months from move-in day, and I am irritated. I should have made the builders re-do their mistakes. I should have made them pay more attention to the final ...
Breakfast Nook Plans
Lately I've been daydreaming of my most recent obsession: Sunny breakfast nooks with bench seating. Yes, you read that right. I've been obsessing over breakfast nooks. And bench seating. It's what I do... my mind is constantly changing, organizing or decorating something. You'd think that I would get tired of it. Actually, it's the exact opposite. I thrive off of it! Honestly, the more that I let my mind wander, the better my ideas get. Does that happen to anyone else? Anyways... Since we have a dining room and a breakfast nook, I've recently decided that I want to make our breakfast nook, well, breakfasty. I want to add a comfy bench with usable storage and numerous pillows, a ...
Our Fall Porch
I'm sure that you may have noticed, but It's feeling very fall-ish. Especially around our abode. There's just something about the corn and beans turning a lovely golden color while the cool breeze flows through the dried corn leaves. It's just divine! With all of that setting the mood, I couldn't wait to get the front porch in on the action too. I honestly didn't know how the fall orange and yellow would look against our front door, but it's just spectacular. I still want to add some dried corn stalks, but they're not quite ready yet. In the meantime, I'm completely loving our fall front porch! Now it's time to start on the inside! ...
Crazy For Stripes….
I've recently decided that our entry way is lacking a little personality. And I've always liked the look of stripes, but lately I've been a little nutty over them. Every time I see them in a room, I get excited. But, I'm picky about my stripes... I don't want anything hugely bold, but rather soft and subtle. These rooms have my heart racing! Via Via Via Via Oh boy. I love me some stripes. They're practically perfect! I can't wait to get them painted in our entryway. We already have the base color and now it's just choosing the perfect "stripe" color, which I think is handled! Seems like it could be a great weekend project! I. Can't. Wait! ...
Master Bedroom Progress: Part 1
If you'll notice, I have deemed the master bedroom a series. This would be Part 1. Yes, we have made some progress. Lots of it really, but there's still so much to do! I'm not going to get overwhelmed, I'm not going to get overwhelmed. :) I'm a big believer in white bedding. It's so pretty and it makes the room look luxurious, while drawing attention to the bed. We finally got all of the blinds installed (some were on back order) and now I am on the hunt for curtains. As you'll be able to tell from the pictures, the bamboo blinds are definitely see through. And that's a problem. :) Here's what we've got going on right now, which is a total work in progress. No, it's not bad. I ...
Kitchen Progress
Happy Friday! I have been working on the kitchen for the past couple of days and have finally made some progress that's worth showing. It's in no way finished. In fact, there are a couple of things that need to be hung on the wall. I had a successful trip to the thrift store and scored an awesome item that makes my heart happy. I'll show it to you next week! I managed to shop around my house to pick up most of the decor items and I'm still on the hunt for more as I try to set the tone for the room. Setting the tone has been the hardest. My decorating style has changed, and while I have a ton of items that don't represent my new style, I can't see getting rid of everything at once. It's ...
Breakfast Nook Progress
My hubby and I went round and round when we were building our home. He thought that we only needed one "eating area". Be that a dining room or a breakfast nook, he only wanted one. Why? Because he knew that we would probably eat at the kitchen bar every night and not sit in either room. ;) He might be right. But that didn't stop me from still wanting a dining room and a breakfast nook. Yes, my friends, we have both. And while we don't use them everyday, they most definitely serve a purpose. You see, I have plans for these rooms. I like to entertain and host family gatherings and this house is set up perfectly for it! And truth be told, that excites me. While my handsome husband still ...
Our Dining Room
Happy Monday! I know that I've been telling you I would show you the interior of our home. And I'm sure that you've quit believing me by now. The thing is, I keep changing it up. But I can't keep waiting around to show you. So, this is our dining room. As it sits, right now. Do I already have plans for this room? Changes to make? Art to ad? Accessories to buy? YOU BET! Let's also add curtains and a rug to the list. Then MAYBE, just maybe, this room will be complete. So, what do you think? For just shopping our house, it's turned out lovely. ...
A Painted Front Door
Who here loves a painted front door? ME! I must say that our original white door looked fine, it just wasn't enough of a statement and not the type of entrance that I had imagined. So, I went in search for the perfect paint color. I wanted something that would give visitors a welcoming vibe, but still look classy with our black rock. We love how it turned out! But just so you remember, here's the before: And here's the after: We painted the front door Wythe Blue from Benjamin Moore and absolutely love it. It's the perfect pop against the black rock. There's still a ton to do with the front porch, but it's looking so much better. Obviously my white pots are empty.... I'm on the ...
House Update: Laundry Room
Happy Friday! The laundry room has captured my attention lately. It could be because I haven't used my own washer and dryer in over a year, and they were basically were brand spankin' new when they went into storage. You may not be able to believe it, but I've missed them. Here's a little surprise about me.... I really like laundry. Don't pass out. Are we good? Great. There's something about the smell of freshly laundered clothes and bedding. Especially bedding. It's pretty much magical. Much like the rest of the house, I've put a lot of time and energy into this room. While I wasn't able to get everything that I wanted in the space, I did get most of it. Because I wanted something ...
