Spring Home Tour : Part Two

March 30, 2015

I’ve been so excited for Spring this year. Yesterday, my mom and I visited our local nursery and I bought bunches of new perennials, strawberry plants and a couple of trees. One thing about building a new home is, the landscaping takes years to build up. Literally. This year will be our fourth summer in the house, and we have barely touched our landscaping. Every year I try to add to it, and this year I’ve made the decision to add more plants and trees, which means we need a bit more dirt, because digging in rock isn’t my idea of a good time.

I can’t wait to get it all up and going. And because of that, you will definitely be seeing more outdoor DIY projects. I already have two new projects in the works, and they should be hitting the blog soon!

But, in the mean time, let’s take a peek at part two of our spring home tour. In part one of our home tour, I shared several pictures of each room, but I took so many pictures, that I decided to divide it into two posts.

Ahh… Spring! How I’ve missed you! 😀

I’m tellin’ ya, one of the best things you can do to spread spring cheer, is to clip a few tree branches. Ours are budding and blooming, and ready for their indoor debut!

And you may have noticed before, but I love to decorate with apples. They add that perfect punch of color, but they’re still serving a purpose on our table and snack list. I love me some apples!

And right outside these big, bright doors, you will find our patio area. I’m currently in the process of oogling over patio furniture and the such. Don’t tell Anthony yet, but we’re probably going to be getting a new set, or just a set in general. 😉

OH!… Here’s a sneak peek of the new wreath I made for our door…

The easy way to make a wreath. Full tutorial by The Wood Grain CottageI’ll be sharing the tutorial on Wednesday! It’s a beauty!

Happy Spring! I’m hoping wherever you are, the sun is shining and the birds are singing! 😀

Main SignatureP.S. If you have any teak patio furniture, I’d be very curious to hear how your furniture has held up with the weather. I’m almost ready to click the “order” button on a set, but I’d like to know how it holds up! Thank you! 😀

Your home is beautiful. I love all your accessories. Could you share where you got your iron cup holder. I’ve wanted one for a long time but the ones I’m finding are huge and too big for my space. I’m fairly new to your blog and I’m really enjoying it.

    Hi Shayna.

5 years ago, when we built our log home, we ordered teak furniture. It was beautiful for the first year. The second year it started to change color…and we faithfully treated it like you are supposed to with teak oil (very labor intensive)….However, the sun and the precipitation of summertime eventually turned it all grey even with oiling. Last year I had to stain it….and will have to keep doing that every other year or so. I like the furniture, it has held up as far as rot goes…..however it is a lot of maintenance and even with that….it changes color quickly.
Best of luck in finding the perfect outdoor furniture!!

By the way….your blog is so much fun. When are you going to sell those lovely wooden cutting boards???

THANK YOU so much for the help, Beverly! I’m so happy you shared your experience with the teak furniture. From what I’ve researched, teak furniture does age and turn gray. I’m still trying to mull it all over. We’ll see. 🙂
Our online shop will be coming soon, hopefully May! 🙂

We moved to a new home last summer and it’s landscaping was never taken very good care of…Plants and trees can be so expensive that I have put a call out on my facebook for donations from friends and family…

I always feel like I could move right in and be comfortable whenever I see one of your home tours 🙂 Everything looks so cozy, put together, and complete. Lovely job once again….and I’m incredibly jealous that your temps are warm enough to have blooming branches and trips to the nursery. That is just a dream for me right now!

Love your style and your creative decorative talent! I love the little bench at the end of your sofa. I have one just like it….an old milk crate. I stuffed mine with an old pillow covered in a grain sack for a footstool. I like your cover much better….certainly more finished looking. Did you make it yourself or find just the right fit somewhere to order? Any info you could provide is appreciated!

Thank you so very much, Leigh! The crate is from Kirklands. I needed something that would give extra storage, but wouldn’t take up too much extra space. It’s just perfect! 🙂

Hi, Shayna ~ I love your home! I especially love the green apple wreath on the framed chalkboard. So cute! I’ve been SO ready for spring this year. We all ready have a few flowers popping up, and I brought a few inside. I didn’t think about branches. Maybe I’ll cute a few tomorrow? :0) Landscaping does take forever! We’ve been in our house for 8 years, and the trees have finally gotten taller than the house. Now, I just have to fill in my flower gardens. Thanks again for the tour!

You have such a lovely home and I have enjoyed the tour. Some how time seems to slip away from us in a blink of an eye. Your décor is wonderful and fits you well. I happen to notice your large cutting board with the circles. I am assuming it is for rolling out pie dough. Can you tell me where you picked it up?

Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed the tour! The large cutting board is actually a pie board. It’s made by Paula Dean. I’m not sure where to get it though, it was a gift. I love it so much! 🙂
