The small town Colorado girl who’s obsessed with home and everything that entails! I’m a creative, a decorator, a day dreamer, a huge fan of scones, and I’m passionate about loving where I live and making a home.
Today I’m excited to share a new Picture It: Design Inspiration. I love creating a room based off of a single beautiful image, and this month I’m focusing my attention on designing a mood board specifically for a bedroom.
I know I can’t be the only one with a bedroom full of random left-over furniture, and hand-me-down accessories. Our bedroom needs a bit of work, that’s why you don’t see it on the blog very much. I’m hoping I’ll have time to spend some attention on it this year, but in the mean time, I thought it would be fun to use this lovely picture to base an entire bedroom design around.
Here’s my inspiration:
It’s such a beautiful picture, and I think the first place to start, is with the feeling of the scene. To me, it seems quiet, soft, serene, timeless, and a bit dramatic with the difference between the airy trees, paired with the dark contrast of the wood fence, tree truck and ground. It’s a perfect picture to see different contrasting elements. Also, please note all of the texture. This picture is absolutely full of it. From the grass, to the trees, the leaves and the fluffy detail on the tall grass, there isn’t a surface that is untouched. I think that’s one of the best things about the picture. Even the wood of the broken fence brings in a sleek texture against the fluffy grass.
And one of the other reasons I really loved this inspirational image, is because of the perfect way it brings both light and dark together. The contrast is well blended and lovely. In order to do that with the design room, I chose items that would both blend and balance…
Bed // Wicker Storage Trunk // Rug // Wall Lights // Dressers // Throw Blanket // Black Pillows // Cream Pillow // Patterned Pillows // Glass Lanterns // Alarm Clock // Picture Frame // Wall Picture Frames
It’s calm but bold, neutral but interesting, and timeless and classic, but fresh and new. All perfect contrasts. While it’s mainly full of neutrals, the punch of pattern in this room can easily support a bit of color, patterned bed sheets, or even a dramatic black wall. Crisp white bedding will make it very easy to move through the seasons, all while switching out pillows and throws to match your mood. The task wall lights are my current obsession. They are completely perfect for those who love to read in bed (that’s me!), but can also be pushed out of the way when you’re not using them. Plus, they don’t take up any space on the dresser, which gives plenty of room to add big, glass lanterns with lit candles, picture frames, or even plants for a fresh punch of energy and texture.
The jute rug, wicker storage bench and throw blanket all bring in equal amounts of texture, while pairing beautifully with the sleek surface of the bed frame, the wall lights and grouping of black picture frames. It’s truly a lovely room!
Now for the paint…
These are all colors I use and have in my own home… I absolutely love them! If I were personally using this design in my own bedroom, I would use Halo on the walls, Super White on the Trim, and Onyx for doors. It’s a calm, cool and timeless color scheme that will let the furniture and accessories shine, and also easily allow for color shifts when the mood strikes.
I’m absolutely loving this series so far, and hope you are too! I also hope your are able to gather plenty of inspiration for your own home, be it in a bedroom design, living room, or bathroom! Inspiration can be used in many ways. Enjoy! 😀
