Oh my goodness! Today I am sharing the reveal of makeover week! When my mom and dad initially told us they were going on vacation, and then when my mom purchased some new office furniture, I really, really, really wanted to give their office a makeover…. as a surprise!
My mom sells real estate and is always so busy. I knew she’d get home from vacation and hit the ground running to catch up… finishing the office would take a back seat. I also knew she’d be stressing about finishing her office, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. My dad gave me a $400 budget and I went shopping for the last few things I knew the room would need to finish it off.
Before my mom left, Anthony and I had planked her walls and ceiling. She had picked out new office furniture (the exact same set as what I have in my office! Love that set!), picked out new carpet & a blind, and had painted the walls and ceiling. She knew the carpet would be installed while she was gone, and that the new bamboo blind would be delivered. Other than that, she was fully anticipating coming home to an empty office, and the living room being full of the old (and very outdated) office furniture, and the new furniture to boot!
Over the course of two weeks we were able to finish everything. It was so much fun to pull this together. My mom was truly surprise and had absolutely NO IDEA I had been working on her office while she and my dad were on vacation.
She’s been home for a while, and I have loved seeing her reaction over that period of time. She loves it as much as the day she came home. My heart is happy.
Without further ado, let’s take a peek at her office…
I can’t even tell you how much I love this room. It turned out amazing, and I am so happy for my mom. She deserves a pretty office like this!
For the entire office, I basically wanted a clean, functional place for her to work. Not only does she sell real estate, but she also manages all of the books from their farm. She needed a place to really stretch out, with ample storage and surface space.
But even though the office needed to be primarily functional (I’m not even kidding about that), I thought it could still be beautiful. The best of both worlds are always functional and beautiful. I think I succeeded.
I’ll be sharing the sources for everything in tomorrows post, but I know you’ll probably be wondering where the furniture set is from. You can find it here.
I have this same set in my office, and I love it.
To style her office, I kept it pretty simple (like her). I tried to move in as much of her office stuff from her old desk, but it was hard to know what she would want to keep or toss, so I left plenty of room for her to customize.
My dad also uses this office for his payroll, farm contracts, farm expenses etc., so I wanted him to have a place for his things too. Luckily, there’s enough space for him too! 🙂
I bought this dresser for my mom as a surprise. She really liked it when we bought her office furniture, she just didn’t know if she’d have the space for it. After they left for vacation, and with the approval from my dad, I bought the dresser! Surprise!
She needed the extra storage space, and this tall dresser worked wonderfully.
She also had a few exercising equipment pieces, so I put them all in this pretty basket.
That picture also gives you a pretty great look at the carpet. I have to say, I am in love with this carpet. The color, the pile, the pattern, it’s perfect for this room!
That pattern though…. It’s like a big rug in the room! Perfect for adding texture!
This side of the room is probably my favorite part of the room. The closet doors were once outdated and orange. We trimmed them out and painted them black. They fit the office perfectly, and add that extra element of detail…
Anthony and I also made my mom one of our galvanized wall organizers for Christmas and there was the perfect spot for it!
I love how the wood tones warm up this room.
I wanted my mom to have plenty of room to store files. Be that files she was using on a daily basis, or just important information she needed have readily accessible. These darling file folders did just that… while being pretty to look at!
And my dad has been able to use the wire wall organizer for a few of his things, which makes it easy to find and distinguish…
You may also remember that we installed tongue and groove on the ceiling. It’s an element you notice a lot more in person, rather than pictures…
The light also adds a beautiful element to the room. It ties in nicely.
Another one of my favorite elements about the room, is the bamboo blind. My mom didn’t really want a bamboo blind, but I finally talked her into one. She found one she liked, and we discussed color options. She ended up buying a dark blind, and I am so glad she did. It brings balance to the room, looks wonderful with the darker carpet, and ties in all of the fixtures. (And BONUS! My mom has used this blind for a few weeks now and loves it! 🙂 )
So, that’s her office! I am absolutely in love with it! I am so happy that my mom has a place to work without feeling confined. She has thanked me profusely, and has said over and over how much more she gets done. She wants to work in here, rather than feeling forced.
And for that reason alone, this makeover was a success!
Before I sign out for today, here are a few other pictures of the room…
I’ll be back tomorrow to share all of the sources of the office.
I hope you love this makeover as much as I do! I think my old bedroom finally feels content! 🙂

What a gorgeous room! It was very kind of you and Anthony to do a room makeover for your mom. I would definitely want to spend time in that room!
Absolutely lovely! Well done!!
Your Mom is a lucky woman!!
Looks so nice, clean and functional. Your mom must have been delighted!
It turned out absolutely stunning! The planked wall and ceiling are just refreshingly wonderful! And I am crushing over that light fixture. I see why your Mom is eager to get to work every day. Great job to you and Anthony!
Very nice. Love the carpet. It’s the same one we’ve wanted in our living room. Looks great.
Love the clean style. Great color accents with the black and gray. Our home is more country but we are in the process of making it look more modern clean lines. I love your ideas.
It’s gorgeous! What a priceless & memorable gift you have your mom 🙂
Fabulous job! Your Mom is a lucky one to have you!
Beautiful!!! Love everything.
Is the dresser from the same furniture vendor as the other pieces?
Thank you so much, Suzy! Yes, the dresser is also from American Furniture Warehouse. I hope that helps! 🙂
Success! Just as I expected … you sure didn’t disappoint. I’m certain your Mom (and Dad!) will enjoy this for years to come! I know I would … !
So beautiful! Your mom is a very lucky lady! Did I miss the closet doors? Not sure I saw a completed photo
Thank you so very much, Karen! You can see a completed view of the closet doors in this post. I hope that helps! 🙂
What an amazing room! I wish this my office haha. I love how much texture you add to the rooms you do!
It’s like you see inside my brain! I can’t believe how you take all the things I like and put them together in perfection! I know she will love it!
What an amazing makeover!!
Very nice! You did a great job, and I know how blessed you feel to give back to your Mom….and Dad!
I look forward to the list of vendors, especially that carpet.
That dresser is perfect for the room…the chair too, actually! I also like the two pictures of the carpet. You can really see the brown in the one and the gray in the other. And the room does look completely different!
[…] you so very much for all of your sweet comments on my mom’s office makeover! I love how it turned out […]
It looks beautiful but I have a question. I have a large imac and tried to put it in front of my window similarly to the set up in your mom’s office but I couldn’t handle the glare! Do you find glare a problem in your arrangement or do you manage it somehow?
Hi Jess! I know exactly what you mean! Luckily, the window in my mom’s office is blocked by lots of large trees. She doesn’t really get any direct sunlight. I, however, do in my office. It’s painful, so I just installed a new bamboo blind with a privacy liner. When it’s really sunny, mostly in the mornings, I just keep the shade closed. In the afternoon I get to work and have an amazing view. Can’t beat that! 🙂
The room looks fantastic! What a nice treat for your mom!
Great job! I love it and the bamboo blind is perfect…along with all the other attention to detail features! Have a happy day!!
