Looking Back

Today I thought it would be fun to look back at the growth we’ve made in the 3 years since we’ve built our home. It’s been such a fun journey, and one we’re still working on!

I really believe it’s important to look back and see the progress we’ve made. Not only does it show lots of change and growth, but it keeps me motivated to keep moving forward and making progress.

Like I mentioned when I shared my tips on how to find your style, we built our home and finished it with a way different style than what I currently love. Truth be told, I didn’t really know what my style was and looking back, I can completely see my struggle. Not only was I trying to figure out how our home should look, I was also fighting the urge to go with trends. That’s a tough balance.

Luckily, after some trial and error, I found my answer. Here’s a little before and current. I refrain from using “After”, because we are not even close to being done with any of these rooms…

Prepare yourself, not only has my decorating grown, but so has my photography! Let’s start with our kitchen….

Plank Wall Tutorial by The Wood Grain Cottage

We have made so much progress, and even though it’s not quite where I want it to be, I’m so proud of where we are and everything we have accomplished. Truly, home isn’t built overnight. It takes time to add custom and personal touches. And it definitely takes time to accomplish a house full of DIY projects. One project at a time, one at a time.

Moral of the story? Enjoy where your home is at- and the progress you’ve made!

  1. I love your house! By chance, where did you get that round wood mirror for your powder room? I have been looking for one for AGES and I can’t seem to find one! 🙂

  2. Blog pictures can be so funny sometimes! Before…my husband hung his jacket and hats at the front door. After…scarfs and a basket of apples. 🙂 I love looking at home decor blogs, but it is important to remember it is a business and the pictures aren’t always realistic.

  3. It just gets prettier and prettier. It is so interesting to see the layers you are adding and the interest it creates.

  4. Beautiful home! I was wondering where you found your office furniture. I have been looking for that exact same style for about ten years. Thank you.

  5. Good Morning Shayna ~
I can’t get over the difference in your Dining Room – it actually looks so much bigger now.
Every room was beautiful before, but you have added all your beautiful touches and now it is HOME.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. Beautiful! I love how you can see your style emerging!
I need to learn how to zoom in on a subject so my photos look better. Want to do a post on that? 🙂

  7. I have a totally off subject question. We are most likely relocating to colorado. The newer houses have rounded corners (bullnose) and textured walls. Are these easy to repair from holes from shelves, kids hitting corners etc. these are totally new to me. Where we live now all the houses have square corners and I guess smooth sheetrock (smooth walls) with knockdown ceilings.

  8. Hi! I love this post & the dining room “after”. Where are the wicker chairs & the dining room table/chair set from? Love it all 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! Our dining room table and wood chairs are from American Furniture Warehouse. The wicker chairs are from TJ Maxx. I hope that helps! 🙂

  9. Hi Shayna
