These delicious gluten free spiced chai scones are absolutely divine. The classic spiced chai flavors pair together with the tender scone to create a wonderful breakfast treat.
I’m not sure if you know this, but I’m not much of a coffee drinker. I’ve never really acquired a taste for it, which is quite funny considering Todd likes his coffee as hot and black as he can get it. It’s just not my thing. Do I like it with a little (a lot of) milk and sugar like my grammy used to make it for me, yes, but I’m much more of a hot tea drinker.
I even shared how I organize my hot tea because I love to have options and a big selection to choose from. 🙂
With the fall season quickly turning our warm days into crisp and cool mornings and evenings, I’ve been enjoying my cup of tea more regularly again. And as I was sitting in my chair enjoying a hot cup of spiced chai tea, I had the most delicious idea come to mind; spiced chai scones.
As soon as the thought came to mind, I couldn’t shake it… and I couldn’t wait to make them! I knew exactly what I would do to make them as delicious as my favorite cup of tea.
So today, I bring you September’s Scone of the Month flavor, Gluten Free Spiced Chai Scones! Needless to say, if you love a good spiced chai, you’ll love these scones!
In case you’re new here (and just finding out about my scone obsession), I love creating new and different scone flavors with my favorite gluten free scone mix. I’ve created quite the collection of scone flavors and I’m not stopping yet! I have so many more ideas!
This scone mix is my absolute favorite. It’s gluten free, but you’d never know it, and even if you aren’t gluten free, I’d highly recommend trying this mix if you love scones! It is such a fabulous mix!
To really lean on the spiced chai flavor in the scones, I used one of my favorite spiced chai tea bags! I warmed the milk, then let the tea bag steep in the milk. Once the milk had a lovely dark caramel color, I knew it would be full of flavor… and I was right!
But, to make sure those tasty biscuits really hit home on the spiced chai flavor, I also added in a 1/4 tsp of ground allspice into the flour mix. Allspice basically includes all the spices of a chai tea: cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
And now for my favorite part of these yummy scones, the spiced chai glaze. Oh my goodness. It’s entirely fabulous. Again, I warmed up the milk, then steeped another tea bag until the milk was caramel in color.
And then I mixed it with the powdered sugar. The result, is one of my favorite glaze flavors to date. I will definitely be using this method again and I highly recommend trying it!
These scones are worth a try and I love how well they pair with my hot tea. Yummm….
