Big, exciting things today! I’m back to share the drywall & exterior progress at the fixer upper! It’s looking so much different and I’m thrilled to finally see those walls covered up!
Here’s what it looks like inside with the new drywall installed…
The kitchen looks great, and it’s almost ready for cabinets! I got a call a few days ago saying they were in, so I’m anxious to see them installed! We’re almost there!

They’re just about done with the drywall, so as soon as we get another inspection, they’ll start adding texture to the walls! Then it’s time to paint!
And now for the exterior…
Before we started replacing the siding, it looked like this…

You may notice that the window on the left is bigger from the first picture. We had a small mishap with the requirements for the bedroom windows, so we ended up replacing all the bedroom windows to make them bigger. That’s put us a bit behind schedule, but they’re in and that’s all that matters!
For the siding, we’ve kept what the previous owners installed on the house, but there were a lot of damaged/ rotting pieces that needed replaced. I wish we could have re-sided the entire house, but it just isn’t in the budget. It already looks much, much better and I’ve been busy playing with paint combinations. Here in the next couple of days, I’ll be painting on a few colors to make the final choice. This house comes with a new light blue metal roof, installed by the previous owners, so it’s been fun to add that into my color combo! 😀
You may also notice the “No Trespassing” sign. Sadly, we’ve had a bit of trouble with people stopping by and “walking away” with items, or trying to break into the contractors trailer. Luckily nothing major has happened, but the police asked that I add the sign to try and deter anyone from stopping by. Hopefully we won’t have any more trouble, this really is a great little neighborhood.
The guys are also getting ready to pour a new concrete front step/ pad…
They’ve been chipping away at the existing concrete steps to remove as much as they need so they can pour the new step right over the existing one. We’ve also had the yard boy busy at work on the messy yard. He’s definitely done a lot already, but he has a little bit more to do before he goes back to school.
As soon as we get the house painted, new gutters will be installed and the exterior will be looking much better. It won’t even look like the same house!

It is coming along nicely! It must be frustrating to have to worry about your supplies etc. That happens in all kinds of neighbourhoods. Theives went into a group of model homes in an established neighbourhood in our town (half to one million $ homes) and stole the air-conditioners right out of the backyards!
I’m curious – If I saw what I think I saw it was that the master bedroom has two windows in a corner. We are in the process of buying a fixer upper and two of the bedrooms (each being on a corner of the house obviously) has this same configuration. Do you have any ideas on furniture placement, window treatments, etc. Unfortunately my rooms are much smaller to work with than what yours probably is. I’d appreciate any ideas or links to ideas you have! Really enjoy watching the progress of your fixer upper!
