It's a been a heavy few months and weeks, hasn't it? Not only with everything going on in the world, but also on the home front. A few weeks ago, my grandpa passed away. Sadness has been heavy in my heart and I haven't had the desire to share anything new here on the blog. I'm sorry for being quiet, but stepping away for a little bit was much needed. Today though, I'm looking forward to sharing our summer home tour. A big thank you to Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for inviting me to join in and share our home. If you're visiting from Heather at Southern State of Mind, welcome! She has a beautiful home with a stunning outdoor area! Lately, we've really been trying to get as much done as ...
Summer
Bringing Summer Inside
One of my favorite elements of summer, is all the gorgeous blooms and green foliage. Even the weeds look amazing this time of year, so lush and vibrant. I recently took a walk around our property and was surrounded by so much beauty! Even though it was a little dark and gloomy, and the clouds were threatening rain, I couldn't help but walk back to the house to grab my scissors to snip a few of the lovely blooms I found. I'm all about bringing summer inside, and be them weeds or not, these free, light and happy blooms were too perfect not to bring in and create a pretty bouquet... The breakfast nook was the perfect place to display them... It's a bit hard to see, but they ...
Summer Table Setting
With summer officially here, and those summer parties in full swing, today I wanted to share our summer table setting as part of the styled and set blog tour hosted by the lovely Lory of Designthusiasm! Each season we've joined together to bring you simple entertaining ideas, and for this tablescape, I've done just what I always do... keep it simple! If you're joining me from Becky Cunningham, welcome! I'm so happy to have you! And now, let's take a peek at my table. I always like to start with a focal point, or a center idea, and this time, it was the beautiful grass that seems to be growing along the edge of every ditch in our small town. I was able to cut off a few bundles ...
Summer Home Tour
It's officially summer, which means it's time to share our summer home tour! Today I'm so happy to be joining Nina, from Nina Hendrick, and several of my other blogging friends as we open the door to our homes and welcome you inside for a little tour! It seems these past few months have flown by, and in all honesty, I've just been content with our home. I haven't been itching to majorly change things, and it's really refreshing to feel that way! So, let's start the tour, shall we? Just like every year, I've kept things pretty simple. I trimmed some of our Aspen trees and they set the tone for our home. The leaves were so vibrant and fresh, the clippings made the house feel like ...
Alfalfa Clippings
You're in for a real treat today friends, because I'm sharing an absolutely gorgeous peek into my beautiful friend Chelsea's kitchen! Remember her dining room? Swoon! Her home is utterly fabulous, and I love being able to share it with you... major inspiration, and I know you all love it as much as I do! Chelsea has always mentioned how much she loves how I use the outdoors so much in my décor. Be that just as my initial inspiration, or when I bring the outdoors in with fresh clippings. You know how much I love using tree clippings as my focal point, but for her kitchen, we decided on some Alfalfa clippings. Gorgeous! Living in a very rural area like we do, it's easy to ...
Summer Home Tour
Summer is in full swing, and I am so happy to be here sharing our summer home tour. As usual, I kept our home pretty simple as I was decorating for summer, but instead decided to focus on the outdoor elements that really inspire me... especially the stunningly beautiful Russian Olive Tree, which continues to be my favorite tree, ever. I'm also thrilled that Nina from Nina Hendricks Design asked me to join along in sharing our home with such an elite group of bloggers, and Country Living and Birch Lane. If you're looking for some great inspiration for decorating, we've got you covered. Let's start the tour, shall we? This time of year, my kitchen is gearing up for the big canning ...
Summer Front Porch
It's always so amazing to me how fast the seasons change. It seems like yesterday I was just hanging Christmas garland on our front porch, and today I'm sharing how I gave it a refresh for summer. Since decorating for Christmas, I hadn't really done much to our porch... it felt a little bit depressed, and slightly sad. It needed some of my TLC. And I guess our porch was in luck, because I've gathered with some of my blogging friends to bring you a fun summer decorating post... I will say, our front porch is in a transition phase. I know I've mentioned it before, but we get horrible amounts of wind. So much so, that it's actually hard to keep anything nice on the front ...
DIY Wall Serving Station
Outdoor entertaining is among us! I know I can't be the only one seeking the outdoors in their free time. And especially since we now have an outdoor furniture set. I am in heaven. :) Today, I am so happy to share another idea for your outdoor space, a DIY wall serving station. Outdoor entertaining spaces can be limited sometimes, so this serving station is a perfect solution to those small space problems. I haven't gotten around to hanging ours on the wall yet... We would have to drill into our stucco exterior, so I'm still deciding where I want to hang it. In the meantime, it makes a super cute serving station on our coffee table! Here's how I made it: First, I started ...
Summer Home Tour
Oh sweet summer time. I've been anxiously awaiting it. I love the longer days, the warm nights, and watching our crops grow. This year, I am so happy to be sharing our summer home tour with a few other ladies who all love summer just as much as I do. I can't wait to tour their homes and see how they've decorated. It's always great to gather new inspiration and ideas. Summer can often be hard to decorate for, but this year, I took the approach of clean, crisp and fresh greens. Such a beautiful, classic and home-y combination. Let's start the tour, shall we? I kept our kitchen similar to the other seasons, just punches of fresh green sprigs, which come from a few of the ...
Summer Living Room Shelving
When I shared our summer home tour a few weeks ago, I completely forgot to include pictures of our living room shelving! I guess I was way too excited to show you a few other things, like my grandma's dish set. I love that set! :-D A while back I decided to switch up a few things in the living room. One of those being our living room shelving unit. I really wanted to see what it would look like next to the tv, so the wingback chair and shelving unit swapped places. Don't mind the cords, those guys drive me crazy. I guess they're a bit necessary... Anyways, I brought out a basket to corral all of my magazines. I have a problem I tell ya. And of course I had to add a ...
DIY United States Pillow
Happy July 1st! In just a few short days, we're all going to be celebrating the 4th of July! While it seems totally crazy that we're now in July, I'm really looking forward to the 4th! Remember a while back when I told you about your chance to win a $310 Target Gift Card? And that I've joined up with 30 other awesome bloggers to tackle the challenge of creating a patriotic project or recipe without using the traditional red, white and blue color scheme? Well, with that in mind, today I'm sharing my DIY United States Pillow, which I shared a sneak peek of during our summer home tour! Here's how I made it! I started with my two fabrics, a dark gray linen and a cream ...
Summer Home Tour
Hi there! Today, I'm joining 23 other amazing bloggers by sharing our summer home tour! :-D Really, we keep things pretty simple around the WGC. I love to move things around, but I definitely don't completely redecorate the house for each season, expect for maybe Christmas. Instead, I like to make small changes, adding flowers, bringing the outdoors in, and enjoying the fresh fruits and vegetables that are so plentiful this time of year. Truth be told, that's one my very favorite things about summer. Our kitchen island is the perfect spot to grab a snack... And we absolutely love watermelon... yummy! You might even notice a sneak peek of our new pantry door, which ...
Pledge of Allegiance Tea Towel
I love Red, White and Blue! It's a wonderful combination--- and something to be so very proud of! This year, I've joined 110 (yes you read that right, 110) other bloggers to celebrate our wonderful country with three cheers for the Red, White and Blue! We're each sharing a project, which you will see below! And because there's something so powerful about our Pledge of Allegiance, this year I decided to make a Pledge of Allegiance Tea Towel. Now, before we start, I'm absolutely NOT saying that this idea is to be used as a towel to wipe down the kitchen after a messy meal. That's absolutely not true. I'm using this beauty as decoration, and I could even see myself framing ...
Fruit Crate Herb Garden
There's just something magical about summer time... from nights spent around the fire pit roasting marshmallows, to all the fresh food and awesome activities, summer is easily one of my favorite times of the year. And even though summer means a really busy time for us farmers, we all love the warm weather and family gatherings, especially when they involve the fire pit... We love those peaceful country nights! And because summer is such a fun season {and a reason to celebrate}, I'm joining an awesome group of bloggers in a summer celebration! Happy days! And since I absolutely love everything about herbs, I thought it would be fun to share a very easy fruit crate herb garden... Here's ...
Fence Picket Outdoor Table Top
I have a confession, and it's kind of funny.... We have a lovely patio area... but no patio table. Ha! When we built our home we added a big patio off the back. One that overlooks incredible mountain and farm views. It's lovely out there, especially when we're entirely surrounded by corn. But until a few weeks ago, it sat empty. Well, not entirely. We do have a grill and two chaise lounges that I swiped off the side of road pre-blogging. (Anthony should have known then...) But other than that, it was empty. And what's a patio without a patio table? It's like macaroni without cheese. It's just wrong. Luckily, a while back I scored a round metal patio table for free. It was ...
DIY Ice Bucket
Happy $30 Thursday to you! Remember yesterday when I said I wanted to host a summer party? Well, I totally meant it. Now that I have my drink tags covered, I figured I would need an ice bucket to go with them. And really, what's better than an ice bucket in the middle of summer? Especially when you can make your own... out of a trash can! I knew I wanted something that would hold a huge heap of ice, so I grabbed a 6 gallon galvanized metal trash can from the Home Depot for $16.00. To start the transformation from trash can to ice bucket, I grabbed some white paint and gave the entire thing a light coat. Once it dried, I gave it another coat of white paint, but ...
Easy Drink Tags
I have high hopes of hosting a party this summer. It probably won't happen, but my hope is there none the less. But, even if I don't get around to hosting the party this summer, the good news is, I'll be ready for whenever I do.... I'm a planner like that! These drink tags will come in pretty handy... and they'll look great. And nobody will ever know how easy they were... except you! And you totally keep my secrets, so I'm safe! First, I bought a $3.00 pack of 3 inch round wood disks from the craft store. Then, I stacked them up & clamped them to the table and drilled a hole near the top... I loved the natural look of the wood, so I went ...
Summer Kitchen Shelves
Boy. It's getting hot here, which means it's summer time! Our corn fields are growing like crazy and everywhere we look it's covered with the brightest shade of green. I love it! Since spring is gone, it was definitely time to bring a bit of summer into our home. Our kitchen shelves are the perfect place to change with the seasons, and I couldn't wait to give them a light, bright and fresh vibe. This time, I'm all about simplicity. It's a love of mine. I used my driftwood wreath and paired it with all sorts of my other favorite things. Like, blue glass and DIY Numbered Tags... I picked up this lovely little piece at the thrift store for $1. It's so cheerful! And it ...
