2017 Christmas Home Tour

In the past, I’ve gone all out in the house decorating for Christmas. Every little space had something that indicated it was the Christmas season… and while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, it all adds up to make me feel a little claustrophobic at the end of the day. It also makes me want to put it all away and start with a clean fresh slate right after Christmas. This year though, I toned things down and the house feels so much better…

Instead of adding a bunch of Christmas specific decor items, I went with more of a simplified winter theme. And just like I skipped the real tree this year, I also skipped the real garland too. Last year I had such a huge mess to clean up, and I just didn’t want to deal with it this year.

Apart from switching up the pillows on the couch, and adding some faux greenery to the shelving, the living room stayed pretty simple…

All the dark greens, black and whites have really been my theme this year. I love how it combines with the crisp whites through the house, but still feels like Christmas at the same time…

The kitchen has a few simple wreaths to make it feel like Christmas, and that’s all it needed this year. Well, that and cookies…

I hope you enjoyed my Christmas home tour! It’s simple, but just right! Later this week I’ll also be sharing what the house looks like at night! It’s always such a fun post to share, because even though you’ve seen the house in the daylight, it looks so different at night with the glow of the lamps!

  1. Just lovely! Thank you for sharing.
Now which Christmas setting does Anthony prefer?

Tell me – what color is the black paint in the dining area? Details, please.
Where can I find a bay wreath? Is it faux? If real, how long do they last?
Do you use the leaves? How?

Looking forward to the evening shots.

    1. Thank you! The black paint in the dining room is ‘Vintage Frame’ by Valspar. You can read all about it here: https://www.thewoodgraincottage.com/2017/02/10/dining-room-changes/
As for the bay wreath, you can find one here: (affiliate link) https://rstyle.me/n/cvxfdibfpt7 I have the 22″ size. It is real, but it does dry up. I’ve had mine for a few weeks and it’s just started to dry… but it’s just as lovely! You can cook with the leaves.. they are a real bay leaf, or store it carefully and use it next year too!

  2. It’s beautiful! Love your simplified style and the faux garland and branches and wreaths truly look just as good as the real stuff.

  3. You’re home looks comfortable and festive. I think decorating more seasonal than Christmas is refreshing. Plus, it lasts longer! I love your calming color combinations.
