Fold Up Side Table Makeover

Painting furniture is easily one of the best ways to get major bang for your buck. Not only can you completely transform a piece of furniture, but it also does the budget good. Furniture that was once ugly, dated and neglected can quickly transform into the belle of the ball… That’s the power of paint, and it’s been no secret here on the blog that I love to repurpose old furniture, and give a good makeover.

Today’s project specializes on just that… the power of paint! Do you remember my friend Chelsea and her fall dining room that I just shared last week? Swoon, right? Well, she’d been looking for the perfect little side table for her living room, and I happened to stumble onto something perfect for her space. It was a match made in heaven, except for one problem… that lovely little side table wasn’t the prettiest to look at it. In fact, it was rather ugly… Nothing a little paint couldn’t fix though, and I helped Chelsea transform it into something perfect for her living room…

Here’s what we started with… Even though it was pretty unsightly, it still had a whole heap of potential.

For the paint, we chose Mushroom, by Maison Blanche. It’s a lovely warm, gray taupe-y color. 🙂

After giving the table a thorough cleaning, we started painting…

It took three coats, with the last coat being very thin…

And once the final coat was brushed on, and dry, we applied clear wax to the entire piece…

The wax not only acts as a protective coat to the paint, but it also deepens the color slightly, really making it all come to life.

The only thing left to do, was to put the finished side table in place and add in a few accessories…

It’s really the perfect compliment to the space…

And the drop down feature of the table top makes it perfect for tighter spaces, or walk ways…

I’ve always said just how much I love when functionality and beauty combine to create something awesome, and this is one of those times…

So there you have it friends, an easy and effective makeover that really does make the difference. 🙂
