How To Make Patio Doors Look More Expensive

DIY, Projects

  1. Wow! That made a huge difference in the look of the door. What a great tip!

  2. The new handles look great and you are right that a pair makes it look more custom. Are they black or ORB?

  3. They look fabulous. I love the doors, so much better than our sliding doors. Not much you can do with them to make them look better.

    That was brilliant!

  5. Tracy says:

Gorgeous! Your doors look beautiful! Next time save some money and buy a dummy handle. It’s made for applications like this and for doors that latch with a top of the door latch, such as my pantry doors. They have no inner workings at all, therefore cheaper.

Dummy handles don’t need a hole either, except for 2 small screws. That will save labor as well.

THANK YOU Tracy! Great idea on the dummy handle! I was looking for one when I bought these, but they didn’t have a dummy in this style of knob. Luckily, the hall/ closet was pretty cheap. 😀

    Hi Shayna!
You’ve got such a great eye for making things look so clean and simple. I love just about every project that you have done. I’m always looking for your next post!!!

  8. We did the exact same thing with the french doors in our bedroom and the exterior set in the family room. Such a great fix!! You’re ahead of me though.. the set in the bedroom would need paint on them, to scrape off. I dread the taping off and/or the scrapping, so far I have successfully ignored them! (classic style with all the girds) Ugh.

  9. Your new door handles look great Shayna. Our internal French doors are the same, only one really works, but they look great on both doors. Great choice going with the black ones too! Best wishes, Julie

  10. Lee Teague says:

WOW that looks really good! I’ll have to try that on my patio doors!

  11. You have such a good eye for detail. I love stopping by your blog, it’s one of my most favorites.

  12. Oh wow, great change! I’m a Realtor and will be advising clients on this simple improvement. The dark handles look so beautiful and classy compared to the brushed chrome nickel knob.

  13. wendy says:

They look wonderful and really expensive! Love your home!

  14. Shut. up. That is brilliant! I’m so doing this! Thanks!

  15. Your mind must never stop creating or designing. I’d love to have just a small slice of you creative mind for myself 🙂 This is a brilliant idea that makes an incredible difference. Who would have thought your doors could look so expensive just by adding a fake handle!?!?! Another wonderful project Shayna!

  16. […] then I shared my super sneaky way to make those patio doors seem a bit more expensive… I’m still smiling over this […]

They are beautiful and such a smart idea. I can’t quite tell if they are black or oil rubbed bronze from the photos. Do you mind telling me? I’m debating between the two for my entire house and can’t quite decide………..thanks for all of your creativity!
