I am just redoing my bathroom downstairs. I inherited the plank board walls.(along with the popcorn ceilings). As I have been watching your post…looking at your laundry room. I decided to remove the popcorn(big mess) and paint the plank boards. Then I had the problem …what color do I use for the accessories???Thank goodness you decided to post pictures of your bathroom. Now I know. Use nickel . It looks so fresh. Honestly …it’s like you read my mind.. Thanks again!!!

THANK YOU so much, Diane! I am so happy I’ve inspired you in your own home! It sounds like you have a fabulous base to work off of (-minus the popcorn ceilings, which are a total mess to remove!). Nickel looks fabulous with the planks and so does black or bronze. White is such a neutral ground, so anything goes!
      You will love it! 🙂

Wish I had put my wood horizontally instead of vertically, it looks great!! Beautiful

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU so much, Amy! I bet your planks vertically are awesome! I wanted the room to feel bigger, so we installed them horizontally! 😀

      • Amy says:

They look ok, but i’d love them tons more horizontally, but for some reason I never even thought of it ~ Now i’m glad i’m following your decorating your beautiful home, because i’ll get tons of inspiration 😀

Hi Shayna! I love your blog. Thanks for the great ideas. I have a question: do you have a favorite white paint that you use? I’m always worried about the white looking too stark, but yours looks great! Thanks! Kathy

    • Shayna says:

THANK YOU so very much, Kathy! I love Super White from Benjamin Moore. It’s a nice bright and crisp white, but not too stark. 😀
      I hope that helps!

Hi there. I found your blog via a Google search on DIY wood planked walls in bathrooms. Gorgeous powder room. I was wondering how this was holding up now a year later behind the sink? Problems with mold or water soaking into wood? Seriously considering for one of our bathrooms and wondered your thoughts. Thanks for your time.

    Shayna:

Love what you did with the powder room in your old house and the entryway in your new home. Question…Would you do the plank walls in a bathroom that has a shower? I would love to do this in an upstairs bathroom in my home. Unfortunately, we had a contractor remodel the upstairs (over 25 yrs ago) and he put skim coating on the walls, which looks like crap. So I would need to rip all the walls down and start all over again (not happening). I thought this would be a perfect solution but am concerned if I would be creating a mold problem…

    • Shayna says:

Thank you so much, Pat! I absolutely love the plank walls and wouldn’t worry about putting them in a bathroom. As long as the bathroom is well ventilated, and the shower doesn’t get the boards wet, I don’t think you will have any problems. The plank walls are great for hiding imperfections. 🙂
