Breakfast Nook Plantation Shutters

See our new breakfast nook plantation shutters! I’m sharing the shutters we’ll be adding, as well as my plan to give them a makeover.

A while back I posted how much I love plantation shutters and how much they inspired me. Gah! They’re just gorgeous!

But on the flip side, they’re very expensive! If you’ve ever priced them yourself, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. I quickly realized that if I really wanted those plantation shutters I was going to have to let go of my thoughts of ordering them online.

Instead, I hit the streets & internet and kept my eye out for cheaper options. Hoping I could find some on craigslist and finding that our area actually didn’t have a single one listed, I turned to thrift/ consignment stores hoping they would have some- and they did, but they were almost as expensive as buying them online… and they needed work!

I did just about everything short of driving from garage sale to garage sale in search of my plantation shutters. I was about ready to give up hope!

Then, one day my mom mentioned that she knew of someone who was getting rid of theirs. I was ridiculously excited and more than ready to pick them up… praying the whole time that they would fit our window!

The happiness really set in when I realized they were going to fit (with the addition of one more, which I knew I could find at the consignment store) and they were FREE!

Oh. My. Goodness. I went from an internet price of about $500 to probably $40 by the time I buy the additional shutter and primer and paint.

Oh. My. Goodness!

Here they are… still in need of work, not attached and just lovely….

Seriously. Love. How. They. Look!

With a little bit of sanding, painting and new hardware, they will be stunning.

I’m heading out to buy the missing shutter. I can’t wait to show you how they look once they’re painted and installed!
