About Me

Hi there & welcome to The Wood Grain Cottage. My name is Shayna and I am the home and DIY enthusiast behind the WGC.

Shayna | The Wood Grain Cottage

My husband and I live on our farm in the beautiful state of Colorado, where we built our new home. I have a huge passion for our home and love to see it grow and change as we truly make it our own. I love DIY projects, decorating and can often be found sweet talking my handsome husband into helping me with my latest idea.

One project a time, we’re injecting that cottage-y/ farmhouse style that we love into our home, with plenty of wood grain mixed in there too. In fact, that’s how The Wood Grain Cottage was named, after my husbands’ love of anything with “wood grain” and my obsession with cottage & farmhouse style design. Put the two together and you have our idea of the perfect home!

When I’m not busy working on a project, searching thrift stores or consignment stores, you can generally you can find me sippin’ sweet tea on the back patio while watching our crops grow!

At The WGC I share everything that inspires me to make a better and happier home. From the DIY projects, to simple decorating and the occasional family favorite recipe, I hope you enjoy following along! Welcome!

I am new to reading blogs and am over-dosing on the wonderful ideas and inspiration out there in web world!
I love to decorate and sew and paint and am learning to crochet.
We moved to TN from Vegas and it was a down sizing that took me a while to appreciate. (we went from a 2900 sq ft home to a bit over 1200!!)
Ii am now loving our little Cape Cod and itching to start making it ours. Pinterest and the blogs it has lead me to have encouraged me immensely. I am in the process of putting in a wood floor upstairs (plywood stirips to be painted white).
I am loving your wood walls and I will be trying those too. (my hubby has MS so I need to pick things I can do alone on his off days).
Thank you for your blog and your enthusiasm!!!

    • Awe- Thank you for the lovely comment Marianna! I’m so glad that you’ve found my lil’ blog and that I’ve inspired you! :) I’m positive that your wood flooring is going to turn out fabulous- and the plank wall, if you choose to do it! Your new home sounds wonderful- and full of love! :)

      Enjoy the blogging/ pinteresting world… it’s too fun! :)

Big smiles (& hugs) to you!

    Hi there Shayna,

I just wanted to tell you that your home is beautiful. I’ve been struggling to find my “style” for a while. (I get overwhelmed when I look at all the great ideas on Pinterest and other blogs so I was lost. ) After looking at your blog, I finally feel like I know in which direction to head. Thank you so much for showing me the way!

    Another Nicole :)

SO thrilled to have found your blog!! I too am a farmer’s wife who LOVES to decorate!! My sisters and I are starting a blog and I’m so inspired by your integration of farming and decorating! It’s very important for people to learn about agriculture and see how farm families live. We have an alfalfa seed farm in Eastern Oregon where my sisters and I grew up. I can’t imagine a better way to live and raise our four kids! ♥️

    • THANK YOU so much, Alison! I’m so happy you found me too! Welcome to The WGC! :-D
I couldn’t agree more, it’s very important for people to learn more about agriculture and see how we live. It’s a wonderful life and the only way I would choose to live and raise our (one day) kids. Here’s to farmers! :-D
      Happy blogging and decorating!
