Beautiful! I’ve added beadboard to various walls/stairway, etc. to our home, over the years…And now, I’m thinking of planking the lower walls in our living/dining room. Thank you for your inspiration…Your home is gorgeous!

  2. What a nice finishing touch. It makes me want to add one somewhere in my house.

This is so beautiful Shayna!! I can think of a few areas in my house I would love to try this 🙂 Pinning!

  4. It looks awesome and I like that the planks ‘flank’ the living room treatment as you mentioned. That is a gorgeous dresser too.

    Looks amazing!

Looks beautiful. I love the different types of wood your chose. I think the board and batten looks great with the plank. Gives me an itch to do something like that in my home. Sure adds a lot of character !

  8. Lisa says:

Love the way it looks now !! We just did this as a focal wall in our sons nursery. Followed your tutorial. Thanks!!

It looks fantastic and really finishes off the space. I love the two different wall treatments – I think if all the walls were planked, it might overwhelm the space, especially because of the higher ceiling in the living room. I have wainscotting on the lower half of my walls, but am doing board & batten in the family room to mix up the look. Your home is lovely, and all of the changes you are adding to it are perfect! Love, love, love the white metal chairs – and am thinking about getting them – are they comfy?

    • Shayna says:

Thank you so very much, Liz! 🙂 The chairs in our breakfast nook are quite comfortable, and I think the arms are at the perfect height! 🙂

    Shayna,

Your new planked wall is perfect. You have done all of your walls so tastefully and I love them. Doing a little bit at a time has made you fall in love with each one and add even more. I emailed you a few months ago while I was building a new home. I was torn trying to decide where I could put planking, ship lap or board/batten. It was so difficult to envision a finished product while staring at 2×4’s and insulation. You encouraged me to go for it, not to worry about combining different finishes. Thank you so much for your inspiration! I now have a 20′ entry hall that has ship lap the entire 9′ high walls on each side. My open living room/kitchen has a ship lap ceiling. I also have a laundry and guest bath with one planked wall in each. I am so happy with all of these………..and get so many compliments. You never know, I may add more at some point when I recover from this year of building.

I love the texture it adds to the room. This is kind of off subject, but where did you get the cutting/pizza boards in the before picture of the breakfast nook? I’m looking for something similar, and I love the look of those.

  12. Trudi says:

Beautiful, as always! I’m eager to hear more of your thoughts (and see more pictures!) of the planking/board & batten combo on adjoining walls. I have bedrooms with board and batten and bedrooms with planking and love them both so much I toyed with combining the two In our foyer/living area in some way, but feared they would compete oddly with one another. You did it! This may just be the confidence boost I needed! ☺️

I’m totally impressed by your ideas and your ambitions to get so much done every week on your home!! It truly shows. In my parents day, their custom builder put in real wood paneling. Now I wonder if it would be ripped out or painted to look like your board and batten?!! It all looks so clean and refreshing!! I love the change to the giant chalkboard too in the nook area.

Stumbled upon your (fabulous!!) blog by chance the other day and now I am hooked!!! Love this look of the combined board and batten with the planked/shiplap. Gorgeous!!

I am wondering if your walls are textured much — does it bother you with the board and batten to see any texture from the drywall? We have orange peel texture and I’m wondering if I would want to do a thin veneer of luan or something beneath the board/batten strips. Any thoughts? Would certainly love your opinion if you have the time… 🙂

(Happily pinned a few of your posts already … and signing up for email updates. Great content here – thanks for sharing!!)

    • Shayna says:

Thank you so much, Teresa! So happy to have you as a new follower! Welcome! For the board and batten, we have a really light skip trowel texture. Depending on how heavy your orange peel texture is, I think you could pull it off without covering the walls. If it’s too heavy and it looks “busy”, I would probably consider covering it, or just trying a small room with the treatment to see how it looks when it’s all finished. Once it’s all painted the same color, it should blend alright. I hope that helps! 🙂

Hi Shayna, I love everything you’ve done with your home. We will be homeowners again soon, (after renting for several years), and I am looking forward to planking several walls in our home. Like your’s, our home has rounded drywall corners. Can you tell me how you finished these rounded corners when a planked wall mets it?.

    Regards,

    Lori
