Thanksgiving Burlap Placemats

Hard to believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but it is! Even though Anthony and I will visiting to spend it with his family, I’ve still been in the mood to do a few projects and decorating. It’s one of my very favorite times, and such a great Holiday to really soak in.

So, for $30 Thursday this month, I decided to take one of my very favorite projects (those burlap placemats) and give them a specific look for Thanksgiving…

In case you’re not familiar, $30 Thursday takes place on the first Thursday of each month. April from House by Hoff, Jen from Migonis Home and I team up to bring you simple and affordable ideas that you can make or recreate for $30 or less!

For these Thanksgiving burlap placemats, I took the same design idea from my original placemats, but made the sayings specific for Thanksgiving. I love the end result. Here is a quick tutorial on how I made them, but you can see the full tutorial here.

First, I made the actual burlap placemats…

Then I designed the saying in my Silhouette design software, and cut them out on freezer paper with my Silhouette Cameo…

Then, I used a razor blade to reveal the sayings…

From there, I separated the sayings and ironed them onto the burlap placemats…

Once they were all ironed on…

I used some black craft paint and my foam brush…

And started dabbing the paint over the freezer paper…

Once I was done, I carefully started lifting up the freezer paper…

From there, I did the exact same thing for the rest of the placemats. I let them dry, and they were ready to use! I am completely in love with the way they turned out!

I did four different sayings:

They’re the perfect addition to any Thanksgiving table…

And I love the burlap with the frayed edges paired with the script font…

I also went ahead and set the table, I just couldn’t resist, so I’ll be sharing more of that a bit later…

  1. I LOVE your placemats! Would you share the font and size you used? I’ve had my silhouette for a couple years and have been afraid to use it, but after seeing these I may have to try it.

    1. Thank you so very much! For the font, I bought it online. It’s called Bachelor Script. As far as the size, it’s about 120 in the Silhouette design software.
      I hope that helps! 😀
