New Painted Front Door

Last week I shared our new front porch lantern light. Not only did it change the entire front porch, but the “vibe” of the porch changed as well. At first, with the palladian blue door and the satin nickel caged light, our entry way looked fun and energetic. And when I first painted the door, it matched the house since we had several rooms painted in the same shades of blue. But slowly, we’ve been changing the interior of our home and I’ve been eliminating the blues room by room. While we still have a few rooms with the blues, the majority of the house has changed. Hence, the blue front door didn’t really fit our true style and had to go.

So, one rare and warm day early this spring, I grabbed my paint brush and roller and went to town. I used the same paint as our shed makeover, Hazy Skies by Benjamin Moore. It’s such a chameleon color. At times it looks gray/ green, other times it’s tan/ green and occasionally it’s just really tan/ creamy. And it happens to look perfect with white trim and our black rock.

It’s funny, because Anthony never really said how much he disliked the previous color until I painted over it. Then, he made up for lost time. Turns out he really didn’t like that color. Like really, really.

I chuckle every time I think about it. When we first moved in, not only was the front door that color, but so was our laundry room (basically), office, pantry, and master bathroom. He must have really been going crazy! Now that I know how much he dislikes the color, I’m working on painting over the remaining rooms. 😀

Not only did I repaint the door, but we replaced our door knob/ handle set too. The first set broke, so we really didn’t have a choice in the matter. The oil rubbed bronze hardware just sets everything off…

So, we’ve gone from Palladian Blue…

The power of paint, it’s a beautiful thing. And so is having a front door that fits our style. 😀

  1. 🙂 We have been slowly , room by room, painting the interior as well. The Mr. finished all but 2 rooms so far and I just finished the touch up in those rooms. I am hopeless with a roller. 🙂
    Your front door is luvly.
    Happy new week.
    Gee

  2. Lovely! It really suits your stone colour and great that hubby likes it too. We got a new garage door and garage man door in the Fall, a new roof and skylights last week and now I need to get started on some trim and door paint outside. Unlike our old wood garage door, the new garage door never needs painting.

  3. I love the door color. I’m having a terrible time picking out a color for my front door. We have a reddish pinkish used brick on the front of the house and a light beige siding on the back of the house. Trim is a belge. Have no idea what to paint the door. Ugh!

  4. That is a gorgeous front door. It really made a huge difference, and the light really sets it all off, as you said.
I thought the door color wasn’t bad…it wasn’t my favorite, but it really makes the entry look very chic! IMO!

    1. Excuse me – “the *Old* door color wasn’t bad……the new *color* makes the entry look” awesome…that is what I was trying to say.

  6. Love the colour of your door. Very nice compliment to your house. My husband and I used Hazy Skiess throughout our house and we love it.
