Bless Our Home Burlap Sign

Today I’m sharing the project that I created for the Michaels and Hometalk in-store Pinterest party! In case you missed it, I shared all the details in yesterdays post! Party Promo graphic For my project, I chose to use the 16 x 20 burlap panel. I couldn’t wait to make a big framed sign! Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage To make it, I started with a black frame and the wrapped burlap panel. Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage Then, I removed the glass from the frame and placed the burlap inside… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage With the burlap inside the frame, I used a stencil, from Michaels, with an olive leaf branch and centered it inside the frame. Because I wanted to have 2 branches, I spaced them both evenly in the frame, then traced a part of the stencil onto the burlap for easy placement later… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage Once they were evenly spaced, I used a bit of tape to keep the stencil in place… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage Then I used some black craft paint and a round sponge to dab the paint over the stencil… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage With the design painted, I carefully lifted up the stencil and washed off the paint with hot water. Once the stencil was clean, I just flipped it over and did the exact same thing to the opposite side… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage For the wording, I used my silhouette design studio and created “bless our home”. I printed it out as a “mirror image” (or backwards) on black silhouette heat transfer material… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage I separated the transfer material from its plastic backing and carefully started to remove the excess material… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage This step was a bit tedious, as I didn’t want to rip any of the wording, but I found a razor blade to be very helpful… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage This is what it looked like face up… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage I carefully placed the wording on top of the burlap and used a tape measure to get it centered… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage Then, I pressed the sticky side of the plastic firmly onto the burlap and placed a cloth on top of it… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage I set my iron to the cotton setting, no more than 300 degrees, and ironed the wording on for about 60 seconds per section of the wording my iron covered… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage After a few attempts, the plastic finally lifted off of the black wording and I carefully peeled up the plastic… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage With that, it was finished and ready to display! Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage I must admit, I love the simplicity of it… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage And I really love the size of it in comparison to the frame… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage My plan is to hang it in the entry way, but I need to move a few things around, so it’s staying in the breakfast nook for a few days… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage I happen to think it looks pretty wonderful in there too! Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage But I think it might just look amazing wherever it finds its resting place… Bless Our Home Burlap Sign by The Wood Grain Cottage This Sunday the 16th, I’m going to be creating a different one in-store! I hope you’ll stop by to see me, and maybe even make a Pinterest inspired craft of your own! I’d sure love to meet you! 1. THANK YOU so very much, Sonia! The shelf is really old… I’ve had it for years and just recently did a little makeover on it with new stain. I’m sorry that doesn’t help more!
      Happy weekend! 😀
